Mesa's very own Jen Amos is a PAEMST state finalist
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, or PAEMST, is the highest honor bestowed by the United States government that a kindergarten through 12th grade mathematics or science (including computer science) teacher may receive for outstanding teaching. Established by Congress in 1983, the PAEMST program authorizes the President to bestow up to 108 awards each year. Awards are given to mathematics and science teachers from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Department of Defense Education Activity schools, or the U.S. territories as a group. The award recognizes those teachers who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that is informed by content knowledge and enhances student learning.
Presidential Awardees receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States, a trip to Washington D.C. to attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities, and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation. Awardees also join an active network of outstanding educators from throughout the nation and serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education.
Before a teacher can become a PAEMST awardee, they must first complete an extensive application and be chosen by a selection committee as a PAEMST state finalist. Many teachers are nominated to apply for PAEMST, but relatively few take the next step of completing their applications. Of those that complete their applications, only a few can be chosen as state finalists. Mesa is proud to announce that Jennifer Amos is a state finalist.

Unified Sports Recognition
Mesa was interviewed for a new Unified Sports Education Training that is being created by ESPN and Special Olympics North America. We were selected because our teams have been exemplary models of our Unified Player Development Model. The interview and footage will be part of a National Coaches Video through Special Olympics North America and the National Federation of High Schools for teachers and coaches doing Unified Sports. The hope is that the video will be unveiled it at the Special Olympics conference in February.
Mary Caricato, our SSN teacher recognized for her work

The Succeeds Prize will award more than $135,000 to fund innovation and scale best practices. Together, we will celebrate the educators, schools, and districts making the greatest gains in student achievement. As a stakeholder of education in Colorado, Mary Caricato, one of Mesa's SSN teachers was invited..

COUNSELING CORNER: A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP
Many of our students have fallen victim to the symptoms of sleep deprivation. In fact, they can be misdiagnosed with depression, ADD/ADHD, mode disorders and other issues because they are sleep deprived. Simply looking at their phone after lights out can significantly lower their tests scores.
Join us at the Sleep Hygiene Workshop at Sky Ridge Medical Center on September 13 at 6pm. You will learn behaviors and practices from sleep specialists and researchers in order to make sure you and your family function at your absolute best!
