Staff Field Trip

We have not had a staff field trip in a couple of years and would like to plan one for this year. In the past, we have done dinner and a show at the theatre or dinner and a movie. Please take a moment to take the short survey below and let us know your thoughts on a staff field trip for 2014-2015.

Don't forget to complete your self-assessment and orientation on the GTES instrument by August 15. Your designated administrator will contact you to schedule your pre-conference before the evaluation observations begin. We look forward to our time in your classrooms, our grand conversations about teaching and learning and growing together this year!

Thank You to Ebenezer

We will send a letter to Ebenezer to thank them for the luncheon along with some pictures of kids using the 5 devices purchased using the funds they donated to our school. If you would like to include a personal thank you note to them to say thank you for their unwavering support of Harbins, please place your note in Cindy Truett's mailbox by Friday, August 15.

It is good to go ahead and get this off of your to do list now as life will get busy very quickly.

Students can begin to bring personally-owned devices starting after curriculum nights on Monday, August 18 IF the parent has submitted a consent form to you. The consent forms need to be kept in your classroom in a file that you can access at any time if requested. We will provide POD forms for each parent for you to distribute at Curriculum Night.

Curriculum Nights

  • August 12 for grades K-2 at 6:30
  • August 14 for grades 3-5 at 6:30

We will start with the PTA meeting broadcast over closed circuit and then turn it over to teachers. The PTA portion will last about 15 minutes. We will kick that part of the meeting off with a short eCLASS BringIt video. Curriculum Night reminders were sent with last week's Roar email from Cindy Truett. All Curriculum Night handouts will be placed in your mailbox on Monday, August 11. Included will be a POD consent form for parents to sign if they wish to send a device to school with their child for BYOD. Again, the specific device does not have to be listed, but we are requiring parents to sign the consent form.

Forms you should have:

  • AKS Brochures
  • eCLASS flyer
  • Scholastic News Parent Letters
  • POD Consent Form for Devices for BYOD
  • Harbins PTA Donation Fundraiser Form
  • School Council Election Ballots

Professional Learning Days

Release dates for professional learning are on the calendar if you want to go ahead and submit leave requests for those days so you can secure great subs, it is a good time to do so.

Voter Registration

As part of the district's work on Civic Engagement, a goal has been set to have 100% of every GCPS staff be registered to vote. To make that easy for our employees, the district has trained a voter registrar at every GCPS school. Montine is our registrar. We ask that EVERY employee not currently registered to vote, see Montine to register. Let's get Harbins to 100% before the fall elections. Your vote counts and we want our staff to exercise the right to vote!

Your students should have a CD in their student paper portfolio (grades 2-5) that you received. Please do not discard those CDs. We need to save their prior work to our current ePortfolio format on Weebly. More information to come soon, but please hold onto those CDs until...

Classroom Spirit Award

Each Friday, Montine will send you an electronic form. In the form, you will be asked to enter the total number of students in your class that is wearing a red shirt or Harbins spirit wear. The class showing the most school spirit by wearing red or school spirit wear will get a "spirit paw" to hang on the door. Go Tigers! Show your school spirit and encourage your students to participate!

Our next faculty meeting will be on August 26 from 3:20-4:30. An article on STEM will be placed in your mailbox to read prior to the meeting. Please bring the article with you to the meeting.
