Welcome & Challenge from Dean Marsha Davis
Dear CPH Dawgs,
Welcome back to UGA! Everything on campus looks different now. We are living in times like no other. We have the challenges of living through a pandemic and through racial injustice and inequity. Both are public health crises. But, as public health students, you have been dedicating your time and energies to COVID-19 response since the start of this pandemic and working to make our world equitable for all. Our world needs you and public health more than ever.
And with the reopening of campus, UGA needs you!
We will only be able to protect ourselves, protect others and protect our community if we work together to promote the behaviors we know to slow the spread of COVID-19 – wearing a mask both on and off campus, avoiding large crowds, social distancing, and good hygiene, and perhaps most importantly reporting symptoms and positive test results in DawgCheck. UGA’s prevention and mitigation practices rely on these self-reports.
When you return to campus, we are asking that you commit to being role models for your peers in the UGA community and in the Athens community. You are future leaders of public health, but your opportunity to lead by example starts now. Be safe. Be kind. Support one other.
Let’s show UGA and Athens what it means to be CPH Dawg Strong! I’m excited to join you in rising to the challenges we face and moving through them together.
Sincerely,
Marsha Davis, DeanReopening Plans for Public Health and Health Sciences Campus
The CPH Reopening FAQ is now posted on the website in two locations. If you want general and easy to use FAQs and information about the Health Sciences Campus and spaces available, check out our information at here:

Here is a good example:
Q: How do I find out if I’m supposed to come to class in person if I transfer into another class during Drop/Add?
A: If you join a class during drop/add week, please email the instructor immediately and ask to be added manually to the eLC portal for the course. Updates to eLC happen overnight if you do not contact an instructor. Emailing will not always guarantee that your instructor will process your request. Please be patient during this busy time.
In the College of Public Health, we are asking that ALL classes meet online during Drop/Add to avoid confusion about who should be in person and when. After the course enrollment is set after Drop/Add, your instructor will let you know what the in-person rotation schedule will be.
UGA Updates: Prepare Before Returning to Campus
- The Return to Campus COVID-19 training for students is now live on eLC, and all students need to complete it by Aug. 20.
- Surveillance testing at Legion Field is free and available to all faculty, staff and students by appointment only. Sign up here: https://clia.vetview.vet.uga.edu/
Dawg Check: Commit to a Healthy Campus
All faculty, staff and students are asked to check their symptoms using DawgCheck before coming to campus each day. DawgCheck is an online tool to help assess and respond to COVID-19 cases at UGA in an effort to keep the campus community safe.
An FAQ on how and when to use DawgCheck is available here: https://dawgcheck.uga.edu/support/
Future Health Promoters
“I wear a mask when I go to work, go to the grocery store, or go anywhere out in public to protect others and myself! I don’t want to unknowingly spread anything to others around me. If we all band together and wear a mask when the semester starts, we can protect each other, ourselves, and preserve the health of Athens itself!” -Isabella Pollard
