The Read-A-Thon Starts Today!
Last year our Read-A-Thon was such a huge success, we decided to make it an annual event!
The Franklin Academy Students Read a Combined Total of 144,282 Minutes last year and raised over $29,000! WOW!
Reading Dates: October 8-22
If Everyone Participates we can raise over $35,000
Reading Goal: 500 minutes per student = 165,000 minutes

Your Student's Read-A-Thon flyer came home today. Each flyer has been customized to your student, and contains important information to help you set up your student’s personal reading and fundraising site. Please invite grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbors, and friends to support your child to reach their reading goal. Kids will earn age-appropriate prizes, and leading readers and fundraisers will earn extra accolades and awards!
Let’s work together to support our school community, and to further encourage a love of reading in our students!

We raised $29,354 last year, and this year will be even better!
Thank you for your generosity! We love our school, students, and teachers and the Read-A-Thon helps to keep our community strong and supported.

The Reading Corner With Mrs. Samuel and Mrs. Snyder
Wahoo, the Scholastic Book Fair has been a wild success!
You are all amazing, thank you. Teachers appreciate the books you are buying from their bins as well. With Reading Marathon starting, this is the perfect time for your students to dive in to their newly purchased books.
We cover a number of topics throughout the year in K-4 library class, and one of them is book care. Even with their best efforts, library books do end up damaged or lost. If this happens, we can repair a mild problem, but most likely you will need to replace it. If your book is lost, you will need to replace it. You can email your librarian for assistance:
Markell Hall is tsamuel@thefranklin.academy
Robin Hall is jsnyder@thefranklin.academy )
Typically, the best way is to find a copy on Amazon—we have found that to be consistently cheaper than paying the replacement cost. Lost and damaged books happen! We teach and encourage careful book use, but we know that life happens, and Mrs. Snyder and Mrs. Samuel promise to not be mean ol’ librarians about it!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Samuel and Mrs. Snyder

Autumn Wreath Delivery - Kindergarten - Chapel Service Guild
All three Kindergarten Classes had fun with this project!
Suzanne Yorks, one of our Kindergarten teachers shared this:
"Two of our Core Commitments are Caring and Creating. Your warm-hearted child did both this morning! First we created pretty autumn wreaths by coloring a cut-out paper plate circle and gluing on our choice of fall symbol cut-out leaves, squirrels, birds, and acorns. An autumn-colored yarn hanger with a note from the Franklin Kindergarten was tied on, and we set out to deliver our kindness wreaths to our neighbors.
There was such a spirit of generosity with our class! Each student went up and hung their creation on the door, and came back to join the group in our walk. Not a single child asked to keep theirs; they were so excited to think about someone coming home and smiling at the wreath they will find. One person was home, and he came out and called, "Thank you!" We hollered, "You're welcome!" back, and we could see that he really liked it. Most of us chose to write in our journals about our wreath delivery walk. It feels good to show our caring!"
Cross Country Meet at Lynden HS!
Coach Segebart shared this:
Girls: Our girls team held their 4th place spot, missing defeating Mt. Baker for 3rd place by just 4 points! This was a difficult course with obstacles and hills that the athletes had not encountered in a meet and yet, we had PRs (personal records) from: Adelle Overson, Marin Lane, Adrianna Eddy, and Sunny Stiles. Another honorable mention from our ladies team is Grace DeLuca who moved up to 8th place in this meet.
Boys: The boys gave it their all and TIED Assumption Catholic for 1st place with both teams scoring 43 points! We had PRs from Van Wilson who also moved up to 7th place, and Lassen Raby.
Our next meet will be held at Hovander Park next Tuesday at 4:15. Come cheer on our Franklin Force athletes and see what they're capable of!

Kindergarten and 1st Grade Art
Art Specialist Rachel Simpson shared this:
Be Kind, Let's Shine! - Miss Rachel Simpson
Middle School students at The Franklin Academy take the following nine classes on a rotating block schedule:
Spanish, Humanities, Social Studies, Math, Physical Education/Health, Science, Technology/Coding, Art, and Science Fair Research/Economics.
Recently in Art with Ms. Simpson, students are learning how to sketch a shell in still life using the following Art Elements: line, value, and shape.
Today our middle schoolers came to school showing their House pride with... House Color Day!
"When enrolled at The Franklin Academy, each student is assigned to one of our four Houses: Ershig, Ferlin, Hess, or Kaiser. In middle school, students meet every morning and end each day with fellow members of their House. This creates comradery between grade levels and gives students a place where they feel at home," shared House Council Lead, Ms. Grace Schmidt.
The Houses also participate in friendly competitions to receive points and work their way to the House Cup! Each House has an animal mascot and a corresponding color:
Ershig: Cougars, Red
Ferlin: Sharks, Purple
Hess: Lions, Yellow
Kaiser: Eagles, Green
Mrs. Pickerill's Pre-Kindergarten Class
Mrs. Pickerill shared this:
"Last week in art we used different colors of liquid paint on coffee filter maple leaves. We also outlined our names with small cut-out leaves.
During our math time, I introduced a dice game to the children. First, we worked as a group and rolled different dice to see how many small acorns we needed to add to our trees. Then later in the week, the children worked individually on matching the number of dots on the dice to the number on their leaves worksheet. The math skills that preschoolers can practice by using dice are subitizing, which means looking at the dots and knowing right away what number they represent instead of counting each dot, number recognition, counting, and matching."
Photos from Ms. Camaya & Ms. Johnson's Class
"For art, we made paper bag owl puppets, they loved making them today!! I think they loved my owl friend “Hedwig” chatting to the class and playing Simon says with them."
Ms. Dizon's Kindergarten Class' Autumn Scavenger Hunt
The students had a wonderful time outside on a sunny day!

Lola: “we had snacks outside.”
Toby: “we played a game during recess.”
Jena: “I like doing daily news.”
Samara: “I ate my snacks.”
Xia-Mari: “we had Music.”
