Arriving on-time ESSENTIAL!
Arriving to Oak Hill at 7:40am every day.
Why arrive on-time? 1) Modeling good habits for your students and 2) Providing access to learning
There has been a challenging trend regarding school tardies that we have to turn around for the benefit of our students and their opportunities to learn.
While most students arrive between 7:20am and 7:35am and begin going to classes at 7:40am, there has been a growing trend of more than 70-80 students EACH day who are arriving AFTER 7:50am which is the official beginning of the school day. Today, there were 90 students who arrived late; that is almost 1 out of every 7 students.
This is unacceptable and unfair to students:
Students need to practice the habit of arriving on-time as a life skill. Students can't arrive late to a game, a performance, a doctor's appointment, after-school tutoring etc. The same attention to arriving on time for these activities must be given to school.
Students deserve the chance to be in class at the start of the day with their peers and not interrupting the teacher while they are giving instructions and getting the lesson underway.
If your student is arriving at 7:50am or after, I ask that you discuss as a family early this week to make a plan to reboot your morning schedule and figure out a way to arrive by 7:30am. We know that traffic is challenging so thanks for planning ahead so there is no chance your student arrives late to school.
If you are having difficulty getting your student out the door and into school, please reach out to your student’s guidance counselor so we can partner and figure out a plan.
I appreciate your immediate attention to this issue.
