Principal's Message

Happy Friday, Families and Caregivers!

At CFT, we value the safety and health of every student, and I wanted to take a few minutes to share some important information about why daily attendance matters, and how families and caregivers can support students in being in school and learning as much as possible during the school year.

What can you do to support your child's good attendance?

  • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine

  • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before

  • Arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes early

  • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to the teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make him/her comfortable and excited about learning.

  • Develop a back up plan for arriving at school if something comes up. Call on family member, neighbor, or friend to help.

  • Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.

Why does attendance matter?

  • Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.

  • Missing 10% can make it harder to learn to read.

  • Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two every few weeks.

  • Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.

  • Absences can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help catch children up.

If you have questions about attendance or would like more information, please reach out!

I’m also happy to announce a new segment in the Principal’s message - the Principal Wicker Fun Fact!

Fun Fact #1 - Principal Wicker was once in a radio commercial!

It’s true! On a family visit to Carmel, California, a producer asked my parents if I could record a short ad for the local radio. They said yes, and I recorded it that afternoon! I was 8 years old at the time, and the big line I remember was “I want to be a Scissor Wizard, too!”

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all again on Monday!

Mensaje de la Directora

¡Feliz viernes, familias y cuidadores!
