Greetings Owls
Dear Students and Families,
Week 7 is here!
This week our students are inching closer to the end of 1st quarter. If you have not been able to review PowerSchool for your student, please do so soon. September 15 kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month! We look forward to sharing various student products and celebrations with you!
Important Family Notes
Please remember the WYWLA students are required to wear a uniform. This is an agreement all families make when applying to our school. Students in grades 6 –10 are required to wear school uniforms to school each day. Your student is required to meet the uniform requirement each day. Students must wear WYWLA jackets, sweatshirts, shirts, and approved bottoms, shoes, at all times.
WCPSS requires all schools to manage attendance and tardies through district provided guidance. On Monday, September 18, we will begin tardy and attendance notification and management. Students will be assigned lunch detention after they reach their 4th tardy in any class.
As always, we appreciate all that you do in our WYWLA OWL's Nest. It takes a nest to raise an OWL!
This newsletter has great information, please take time to skim through it for news and updates!
Sincerely,
Mariah Walker
Have a wonderful week ahead!
Sincerely,
Mariah Walker
Hispanic Heritage Month
Happy Hispanic Heritage Month, WYWLA!
WYWLA is home to many families and staff of Latin origin! Though this month focuses on the celebration of Hispanic Culture, we are fortunate to see the impact of a diverse community each day at WYWLA. We look forward to celebrating Hispanic Culture this month, but each day at WYWLA is a celebration of all cultures represented in our community.
Many of our students have been preparing projects to share with you related to Hispanic Heritage! We will be sharing those out throughout the month! Please enjoy this segment, from our Early College students last year!
WYWLA Field Trips
We are excited to begin all the amazing school field trips this year. As your student prepares for various trips with her grade/class/club, please remind her that field trips are a privilege, not a requirement. We expect the utmost character, respect, and reflection of our WYWLA community on field trips. Significant behavioral concerns, disciplinary offenses, and suspensions will result in revoked field trip privileges.
Parent and Community Volunteers Registration
If you wish to support field trips, you must register as a volunteer.
All WCPSS parent and community volunteers are required to register through the MyVolunteer system.
- On the MyVolunteer site, you will find disclosure and authorization forms, the WCPSS Volunteer Agreement, as well as a summary of rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You must review these documents and provide the requested information.
- Make sure you include your name and contact information when you begin the registration process. If you leave the CRC background site before completing your contact information, you will have to begin the process again.
- You must include your social security number to register to volunteer. If you do not have a social security number, please contact volunteers@wcpss.net or call 919-694-8233.
- You will be notified by the MyVolunteer system if you are approved to volunteer.

A Quick Health Note
We are back in school and indoors more often, which means germs are more easily spread! We've seen colds and viruses already in our school. We value consistent school attendance; however, we do not want our students to come to school when actively sick or exhibiting symptoms of illness. Medicating symptoms to mask illness still spreads germs to others. Remember to follow healthy school guidance noted HERE.

Driver's Ed Information
In the past Jordan's Driving School has always advised students to take class through their base high school or their sister school during the fall and spring. Jordan's is now offering a virtual class for all the schools that do not hold a driver education class at their school. The information page below has updated information and how to register for a class. Jordan's will also offer winter break classes and Saturday classes, if the after school virtual class dates do not work for some students.
