All School Letter
November 5, 2021
Students were hard at work this week preparing their portfolios. We look forward to seeing families in the school on Wednesday & Thursday to view them. A detailed explanation of portfolio presentations can be found below. We have a handful of missing yearly goals and parent letters, please email them in this weekend. Compiling report cards is a big job and when we have a few missing, it takes even longer!
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are all early release days next week to accommodate for portfolio presentations. Please pick your child up by 12:45.
Friday is celebration day at Chinook. Each Friday after portfolio presentations is reserved for a day of fun to celebrate a trimester of hard work! Your child can wear PJs and, if you'd like, bring in a non-sugary dish/snack to share with the class.

If you wait in the drop-off line prior to doors opening, please leave a break in the line for staff to squeeze through. Chinook staff arrive anytime from 7:15-8:00. Thank you!
Portfolio Presentations
Portfolio Presentations take place over two days and we have early dismissal on each of these two days. On the first day, the presentation times are from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. On the second day, times are from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please do not arrive within the last 45 minutes as each portfolio presentation usually takes about one hour. No appointment is necessary. When you arrive, your child will pick up his/her portfolio and guide you to a place to talk.
Please remember that during the portfolio presentation, your child will guide you through their portfolio and the discussion. We expect all students to be in charge of their own learning so they will lead the entire presentation. Your role is to ask questions and enjoy all your child’s new knowledge and skill development. While attending a portfolio presentation please avoid taking the portfolio over and flipping through it yourself. This presentation itself is a valuable learning experience for your child and should feel positive.
Unlike parent teacher conferences, teachers do not take part in portfolio presentations. If you have questions after a portfolio you may schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher. Please give all your attention to your child on Portfolio Presentation Day.COVID-19 Symptoms, Testing, etc.
Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate in-person school. We have had a couple of positive cases in our school over the last couple of weeks. Thank you for keeping your children home who are experiencing symptoms (yes, even a runny nose).
Keeping your child home from school due to symptoms?
Contact Kat in the office to excuse an absence due to illness. When you contact Kat, please be prepared to let us know about any symptoms, exposure, a positive test or if your child is a close contact. This will help us keep up with tracking test results and symptoms within the school. If your child is out of school due to symptoms, we will need a copy of the PCR test results for them to return (if you choose to test). PCR testing is available through the district at three different locations. You will need your child's s numbers to schedule. Use this link to schedule a test: https://www.picktime.com/FNSBSD
My child is a close contact, what do I do?
It is still public health guidance and CDC guidance that close contacts who are not vaccinated quarantine. Please follow medical professional guidance, and do not send students who are close contacts to school.
Someone in my child's class tested positive, what do I do?
Monitor for any sign of COVID symptoms, if they do not have symptoms, they can be at school. Chinook now has antigen tests (tests for students who are not showing any symptoms) and can offer testing to students in the class 1-2 times after their last contact with the positive individual. This option will allow us to keep as many students in school as possible and see if transmission within the class is happening.
