PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello Woodfield Families and Friends,
I am so happy school will be starting soon and our building will be filled with student chatter and laughter again! Wow, have I missed hearing and seeing all our Woodfield friends! This school year will be a little different with the WGSD starting in the Hybrid Model, we will also need to wear face masks and physically distance, but we have a great plan and we are ready for our students to return to school!
In order to support physical distance, we are dividing the student body into Group A - Last names A-K and Group B - Last Name L-Z. Group Students will attend Monday and Tuesday for in school instruction and Group B student will attend on Thursday and Fridays. What is exciting about this model is that there will be approximately 8-12 students in each group. This will allow for a more personalized approach while the teacher is able to target skills.
Communication will be extremely important this year due to the possibility of changing models. Please email your child's homeroom teacher any questions or needs early in the day so these can be addressed during their lunch break. I ask that you do your best to be consistent with how your child is going home at the end of the day. If you need to make changes, please let your child's teacher know well in advance to inform the school office. I know emergencies happen so if a change is needed the day of, please call the main office, 262-514-8230 by 2:30 pm so we can ensure your child gets where he/she needs to go.
Another big tradition is FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL pictures by you!. I ask that you do these at home either before or after school (sorry, we can't have visitors in the building). Parents you can escort your child to the playground (you must wear a mask) however once students are in line and moving into the building we ask that you make your way back to your car. Teachers will contact you as needed to ensure you that your child is adjusting to the 1st day of school well.
Finally please note the topic below regarding the new end of school car pick-up procedures that will assist us in physically distancing students as they wait for car pick-up.
I'm looking forward to a fantastic school year! See you soon~

WEARING A FACE MASK – TIPS TO TEACH CHILDREN
Face masks are required at school while in the building or when we cannot appropriately social distance; however there will be times when the mask can be removed. Times students/staff may have their mask off:
When eating
When drinking
Taking care of personal needs (blowing nose…)
When outside for classes & physically distanced
When a staff person indicates it is possible to be physically distanced (outdoors), but the student may still choose to keep their mask on
In the building, masks will need to be worn at all time
Our 4K Students will have a face shield option when in the classroom
Each student will get a "mask lanyard" to hold their mask during times when masks are not required.
PRACTICE HAVING YOUR CHILD WEAR A MASK
So it's not feeling so "NEW" to wear a mask, please practice having your child wear a mask over the next few weeks. Start in 30-minute increments and increase each day. One idea could be when your child is using their electronics, you can have them wear the mask. The more your child practices BEFORE the start of school, the more at ease your child will be wearing the mask.
We will be adding parent and student resources to the Woodfield Web-page. If your child needs additional support, please call Mrs. Voegeli our School Counselor and she can assist.
1st Months Schedule
What Lunch/Recess will look like . . . what Specials will will like
Art Class: Art class will be taught in the homeroom or outside when weather permits. Students will NOT be sharing materials.
Music Class: Music will be taught in the classroom for the most part, however Mrs. Canales will rotate one class from her morning schedule and one class from her afternoon schedule into the music room to utilize some materials. Again NO shared materials or singing. She too will take students outside when weather permits.
Phy Ed: Phy Ed classes will be outside most days all school year. It is important to ensure that students wear appropriate shoes on their Phy Ed day as well as dress for the weather. The only time students will be inside for Phy Ed will be when it is raining or when the wind chill is below 0.
Snacks, Birthday Treats & Water Bottles
If you want to celebrate birthday's by sharing a teat with the class, the treat needs to be factory individually wrapped such as Swiss cake rolls or snack bags of fruit snacks. Sorry now large trays of cupcakes this year. Your child's teacher will also communicate if there are any allergies in the class you would need to be flexible with.
The water fountains (bubblers) have been replaced with bottle fillers at school. We are asking student to bring a water bottle each day to school for their personal use. We are asking that the water bottle come to school empty so we do not have issues as students will also have their Chromebook in their backpack as well. Please make sure the water bottle can be securely closed to avoid spillage in the classroom. Teacher will support students filling their water bottle as necessary.
School Supply Drop off
If you have not yet dropped off your school supplies labeled in a box/bag please feel free to do so anytime next week Monday - Thursday 9 a.m - 3 p.m. There will be a table outside the entryway to place them on. We will deliver them to your child’s classroom.
Medication Drop off
If you are able, please drop off medications next week Wednesday, September 2nd between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Please contact Lynn Irvine in our school office if this time does not work for you to make other drop off arrangements during next week.
NEW FAMILIES 4K - 5th Grade
Rolling Out the Red Carpet - This Year School Theme
Each year we choose a learning theme as part of our school culture committee. This year's theme is ROLLING OUT THE RED CARPET.
I love the imagery of all our Woodfield kiddos as we end the long break from seeing each other! We also want to join the distinct as we celebrate the opening of a highly renovated Fox River Middle School.
The learning theme is often the impetus for school assemblies, family events, classroom field trips etcetera; however, we will not be having large group events for now due to the need for physically distancing BUT our Woodfield Way PBIS team is planning other fun activities to unite our students! We will have WOODFIELD SPIRIT Monday's & Friday's! Every Monday & Friday, students, and staff are encouraged to wear their Woodfield or Waterford apparel.
Rolling Out the Red Carpet fits perfectly with many of Mrs. Voegeli's, lesson themes. Mrs. Voegeli will continue to provide classroom Guidance class instruction this year but it may look a little different due to the Hybrid model.

CHROMEBOOKS FOR STUDENTS & PROCEDURES
We are so excited to share that our students in 2nd-5th grade, will be assigned a Chromebook this year! Students in 5K and 1st grade will be assigned an iPad to support their learning. This year we will be assigning student this technology to ensure we can move quickly to a virtual model if needed.
Students will take their Chromebook/iPad home at the end of each school day and return it the following school day. Please plan for an appropriately sized backpack to accommodate the Chromebook/iPad. We ask that you charge the Chromebook each night prior to your child bringing it to school. Chargers should be left at home for nightly use. The classroom will have extra chargers for use during the school day if needed however charging the device each evening will minimize downtime.
VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE FOR ALL
We will REALLY miss seeing all of you! Because we can't meet in person, the grade level teachers will create a short Open House video with information for you and your child. This will be shared with you electronically and will be on our Woodfield Website.
