Welcome..............to 4th Grade

I'm Excited to Get to Know You Better!

Learning is Personal

Fourth grade teachers are gearing up for a year full of learning adventures! As a district, HSSD is moving toward “Personalized Learning.” We are excited to transform our classrooms to make learning more individualized, engaging and collaborative. Your child’s learning potential will be maximized! Our fourth grade team of teachers, Mrs. Kentop, Mrs. Zavernik, Mrs. Hawker and I will be working together with math instruction. Mrs. Hawker and I will be a collaborative “teaching team” for the other subject areas. This will allow us to make your child’s learning more personal. We are enthusiatic about this change in our teaching practices. We feel fortunate to work with your family this year!

Background on Ms. Shipley

I have lived in Wisconsin for all of my life. I grew up in the Howard-Suamico area and attended Bay Port High School. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development with an emphasis in elementary education. My teaching career began in Howard-Suamico in 1990 as an instructional aide at Forest Glen Elementary. The following year, I transferred to first grade at Howard Elementary and reading enrichment at Meadowbrook Elementary. In 1992 I began my classroom teaching career as a second grade teacher, here at Forest Glen. The next five years I taught third grade. I, then, had the unique opportunity to loop between third and fourth grade for four years. During that time, I received my Masters in Technology Education from Lesley University, Cambridge, MA. Since 2001, I have been teaching fourth grade.

1st Homework Assignment of the Year

Please take a moment to sit with your child and have them compose a letter to me. Click Here for Directions

Letters can be brought to Open House or the first day of school. Five Timbertail tokens will be awarded to everyone who does their first homework assignment! If it is returned to me at Open House, I will double the tokens. :)

Communication

I am very excited to get to know your family this year! I believe that you are an essential component of our classroom and your child’s education. Effective communication is crucial for a successful year. Feel free to contact me anytime you have a question or concern! I can be reached best by email at janeship@hssd.k12.wi.us. If you need to contact me by phone, my classroom telephone number is 920-662-7902.

Remind

If you can, please sign up for REMIND. This tool will allow you to receive text messages or email messages about important upcoming events, reminders, etc. so that you are never out of the loop! This is a safe/secure service where it only allows me to text or message you, no one else has your number or email. It is a positive tool I use in the classroom to inform you quickly. Use this link to sign up today!

Snacks and Water Bottles

Please send a healthy snack and water bottle to school each day with your child. His/her body needs food/water to stay focused on learning! Water is the only liquid permitted in the bottles. Fruit juices, Propel, Gatorade or any other sugary drinks attract ants. I thank you in advance for not sending these to school. Water bottles should also be the kind if knocked over will not spill. We need to be extra careful around the iPads and excessive spilling of water may cause the growth of mold. I'd really appreciate avoiding that.
