2018 Graduation Photos
MCPS is inviting parents/guardians and students to share their favorite 2018 graduation snapshots, which will be shared on the district’s website and social media.
For e-mail, parents/guardians should select their best horizontal graduation snapshot and send the photo as a .jpeg file (no larger than 4 MB) to pio@mcpsmd.org. Please include your child’s first name and school (we will not publish last names). Many of the pictures will be posted on the MCPS website and Flickr account.
For social media, parents/guardians and students can post photos on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #MCPSGrad. Some of the posts will be shared on our Twitter and Facebook pages. By submitting a photo, parents/guardians are agreeing to its use for publication on the MCPS website.

Support the 2018 Give BACKpacks Campaign
MCPS needs your help to raise funds to purchase backpacks filled with school supplies for students in need. This is the sixth year for the Give BACKpacks initiative, which is sponsored by the Partnerships Unit in collaboration with the MCPS Educational Foundation, Inc. During the 2017–2018 campaign, 18,534 backpacks were provided to 82 schools and the International Admissions and Enrollment Office.
A $10 donation will provide a new backpack filled with school supplies to a student in need. Consider donating at the following giving levels to reach more students: $300, $1,500, $6,500, $25,000 or $50,000. You can direct your donation to a school of your choice through the campaign. Visit www.mcpsgivebackpacks.org to make a donation or to learn more about the campaign. If you have any questions, please contact the MCPS Partnerships Unit, at 301-217-5370.
Fiscal Year 2019 Operating Budget
The Montgomery County Council approved an operating budget for Fiscal Year 2019 on May 24. The budget allocates $2.59 billion to MCPS—$77.2 million more than the current fiscal year. This budget will allow MCPS to manage growth and invest in critical areas focused on improving student performance and expanding access to programs. The Board of Education will take final action on the budget at its business meeting on June 12, 2018. Please visit www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/budget/ for more information.
Student Service Learning (SSL) Hours
Summer is a great time for students to become involved in service activities and earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. Students can participate in a range of activities—working at a soup kitchen, cleaning up a local park, or collecting items for a clothing or food drive. All MCPS students need 75 SSL hours to graduate from high school. Students can begin collecting those hours the summer before Grade 6.
