30,311 BOOKS GIVEN IN 2021! More than 8,100 Galveston County children received a book in 2021! Volunteers, like the Ball High Key Club, help monthly at the SMART Book Bank in Room 180 of the Scott Building, 4116 Ave. N 1/2, Galveston. Reserve your space with a text (409) 771-4155. Volunteers can join us Saturday, February 12th beginning at 10:00 am for a book stickering get-together at Hayley Elementary (TCISD) in LaMarque. We will unpack 1,600 books and place "Eat Fresh Veggie" stickers on the back. The books will be used in the classroom. Thanks to this partnership, every student at Hayley will be given 3 awesome new books for keeps! | LETTUCE GROW! The spaces are used for teacher workshops and family classes, such as Mardi Garden Harvest Days, beginning Tuesdays in February. Food is given free to families and other participants. | SMART's ACTIVE BOARD The all-volunteer Board of Directors includes medical, education, and business professionals and represent expertise in science, math, art, reading, and technology (SMART). This active group, dedicated to early childhood and health literacy, pulls weeds, builds fences, reads to children, helps with bookkeeping, paints murals, and hosts teacher conferences and family events.
