Principal Young's Caregiver Update
October 20, 2022
Message from Principal Young
October is Anit-Bullying month so we are continuing to focus on Inclusion as a key characteristic of the Glen Hills Way, which states:
- We are a community that welcomes, includes, affirms, and celebrates individual differences.
- We are a community that builds trusting relationships through honest and positive interactions.
The Student Services Team has planned a school wide Bullying Prevention Spirit Week and kindness challenge to promote Inclusion next week. Be sure your students show their school spirit by participating in these events that promote awareness, fun, and school pride. Additionally, Mr. Williams and Ms. Sladek will be kicking off Glen Hill's No Place For Hate group by having students sign off on the No Place for Hate Pledge. These continued efforts promote a safe and productive learning environment for ALL students, so that they can feel accepted and thrive.

What is S.T.E.A.M.? Science Technology Engineering Art & Mathematics Class
For the first trimester, STEAM students have been exploring our outdoor spaces and learning about the Glen Hills Ecosystem. Students across grade levels collaborated, created technical drawings of species they observed, and are working to create a Glen Hills Ecosystem Food Web Mural to be put on display. Students in STEAM have also been learning about our Glendale community and have worked to understand how the City of Glendale recycles. Students conducted an audit of how well staff and students are recycling here at Glen Hills, and are working to capture, convey and display their learning around recycling to educate others. Students are also planning their trimester project, some students will create design plans for green infrastructure and stormwater management for our Green Schoolyard Project, while others will be examining the Kletzsch Park Habitat Restoration and Fish Passage Project and look for ways to incorporate their ideas to enhance the spaces along the Milwaukee River in Kletzsch. They will have the opportunity to discuss their ideas with project leads and professionals in the field, build models of their designs, and devise ways to incorporate sustainable design into their own community. STEAM provides opportunity for students to identify real world challenges and work collaboratively to create solutions using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics - October 2022
