Scenes around CCSD...

It has been yet another terrific week around CCSD with engaging activities, including, among many others:

  • a holiday concert by students in the Stroud Strings after-school orchestra program at Howard B. Stroud Elementary. This is the second school year of the program, which is part of a partnership between CCSD, the University of Georgia’s Community Music School, and local nonprofit AthFest Educates. Read more in this press release from last spring.
  • Community Service Day at Alps Road Elementary, where staff, students, and many local businesses and community partners came together to prepare garden beds to start a vegetable garden at the school.
  • A College and Career Day Fair at Clarke Central High, where representatives from several colleges, employers, and organizations spoke with students to discuss their options for after high school.
  • a "s'mores lab" in Mary Lynn Zimpfer's chemistry class at Cedar Shoals High, where students had fun while studying stoichiometry.

You can find more photos of these activities on our Facebook page. Be sure to give us a follow on social media as we share the fun and exciting things happening every day across our district!

H.B. Stroud Career Network Program Starting in January

On Wednesday, Nov. 30, the Department of Family and Community Engagement hosted an informational meeting for the Howard B. Stroud Career Network program in partnership with the Innovative Health Care Institute in Athens. The program will start in January at Howard B. Stroud Elementary, offering family members of students an opportunity to take classes and receive certification in several areas of health care.

During Wednesday night's session, Dr. Cshanyse Allen of Innovative Healthcare Institute gave an overview of the courses offered. Parents and caregivers of students will participate in four to five weeks of classes and gain hands-on experience before taking their certification tests. After finishing the course, they will be in a position to secure employment.

Scholarships were offered through the Ashton Hope Keegan Foundation to pay in full for the mothers enrolled in the program, and several mothers registered in the program Wednesday night.
