"Hands On Science" in Ms. Flint's Class
Students in anatomy class investigating the strength of bones... Did you know that 20 pieces of paper rolled up tightly can hold the weight of more than 14 anatomy textbooks?!! The handles of Ms. Flint's red bag, on the other hand, did not fare so well in the end.
"We the People" Competition
On Saturday Jan. 30th, twenty one Monomoy government students traveled to the EMK Institute for the Senate in Boston to participate in the annual "We the People" speech competition. Congratulations to Hayley Macomber, Andrew Locke, and Miranda Trieble for earning a unit award for best scores on their topics!
To prepare for the competition, students study the US Constitution, civics, history, and current events and write speeches on a range of topics related to civics, politics and the Constitution. The competition is modeled after a congressional hearing: students work in cooperative teams, and prepare essay responses that are read before a panel of judges, who then ask students a series of follow up questions. Thanks to the team for a great competition, and to Sharon Gleason for helping to chaperon the trip.
After Prom Party March 24, 2016 - The parent after prom party committee is looking for volunteers!
The Junior Prom is fast approaching it will be here before we know it. A few parents have been meeting over the past few months to initiate, organize, and create an agenda for the parent driven after Prom Party. In order to make this a fun and safe event we will need several parents, and or staff to help this event come together smoothly. We are looking for a large group of volunteers to help with set up, clean up and of course during the party as well. Please email Noreen Marchese - normarchese@yahoo.com, or Karen Small - smallconstuction@comcast.net if you are able to help out in any way, even a small amount of time is appreciated! We realize time is precious, and most of us have numerous other obligations, however if we all come together, only a small amount of time from each of us will be needed. We have a great group of Juniors, lets make this a memorable night for them!

Students in Grade 8 on the Silver team performed various monologues from the Newberry Award winning book Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! Students identified different techniques that support dramatic delivery to an audience and performed for their peers and teachers. This series of short plays focuses on the lives of medieval teens, making connections between their studies in both English and World History classes. Congratulations to all students who presented.

Shark "Shout Outs" (SSO's) - MRHS's way of Appreciating the Great People here!
Shark Shout Outs are spreading fast & furious at MRHS. We start every staff meeting with Shout Outs to colleagues and Shout Out to students nominated for student of the month during am announcements. Now, students and Parents are welcome to send in a Shark Shout Out as a token of appreciating other students and staff in the school. Email Mr. Burkhead at bburkhead@monomoy.edu, or drop them off to Ms. Hooper in the main office! The enthusiasm is contagious!
I'd like to publicly acknowledge Jennifer Police for her in-depth knowledge of the college application process and for the time she took to meet with my son, husband, and me during our post-high school planning meeting. It's been almost 35 years since I've looked at a college application - and so much has changed since then! Her explanations were very clear - and every question we asked was answered. She even demonstrated how to use the Naviance system for our college search process. That was 75 minutes well-spent!
Tina Games and Simon Evans
When I left school on Friday during the snow storm, Mr. Hoffman-Terry was in the parking lot helping a student with his car. He would do that for anyone at anytime and probably would not want it to be a big deal but I thought I'd let you know.
anonymous teacher - nice job Mr. HT!
Thanks to Chris Roberts for sharing his classroom space with the Handbell Choir. It means a great deal to the students to be able to rehearse in a room with wonderful acoustics and a supportive audience every week. His kindness and collegiality are another example of what make Monomoy great!
Rachel Barnes

Major Fundraiser March 5th!! Contact Ms. Gallant for Details kelly.gallant@comcast.net
Who we are:
We are Monomoy Regional High School Friends Of The Arts. “FOTA” We are a non-profit, independent organization of parents, educators, students and friends working to support, encourage and enhance the Arts education programs at Monomoy Regional High School. We have provided financial support, equipment and scholarships to Harwich students since 2004 and more recently to the entire Monomoy district. To this end, we work to build awareness of our Arts students' efforts, accomplishments and shows through programs, projects and fundraising.
What we do:
· 2013 – we donated $10,790 to the Arts Dept for new Mac Computers
· Annually – we give scholarships to Monomoy students going on to study “Arts” related higher education. Last year we gave $500 each to five individual students.
· We provide financial support for biennial fieldtrips to New York City. On these trips the students see Broadway shows, attend backstage workshops, visit news studios, and multiple art museums
How we do it:
· We sell baked goods at all Monomoy Productions
· We involve the Arts students in the Fall to help us create Holiday Baskets to raffle off at our Winter Concert
· Our current fundraising endeavor is a wine and beer tasting with silent auction event. Our “Spring Fling Fundraiser” is planned for Saturday March 5th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the 400 East Restaurant in Harwich. We will sell tickets for $35 per person. Each ticket holder will receive a souvenir tasting glass and enjoy delicious self-serve finger foods and live music by Harwich alum, Catie Flynn while browsing and bidding on what we hope will be a fantastic array of silent auction items.
