The Moon & Tides
Emily, Grace, & Taylor
What are the different kinds of tides?
There are many different types of tides. They all have a different name, such as high tides, low tides, spring tides, and neap tides. All of the tides are caused by the Moon. Every day there are four tides. There two high tides and two low tides every day. If you know about tides then you will know why the water level goes up and soaks the things that you left on the beach and then came back to.
The phases of the Moon
The moon has many phases and causes the tides at your beach. The moon has nine phases. They are new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbuos, full moon, waning gibbous third quarter, waning cresent, and then new moon again.
What would happen if we didn't have our moon? How do the moon and tides relate to each other?
The moon and tides are related to each other through gravity. The moon's gravity pulls the Earth's water towards the moon which creates tides. The high tide is where the water is pulled towards the moon and the low tide is where it isn't pulled.
Why are there predictab-le patterns of change among the moon and tides?
Every day there are 2 high tides and 2 low tides each lasts about a predictable amount of time of 6 hours. That way we will know the pattern of tides and we may plan an ocean visit around tides.
What would happen if we didn't have our moon?
If we didin't have our moon then we wouldn't have the tides. We also wouldn't have our nighttime lamp in the sky.
