FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Father Doyle Families,
This upcoming Monday marks the beginning of March, and we're blessed to have a month filled with great community events! Please be sure to read the information below to stay up to date on all of the latest from Fr. Doyle!
Firstly, March is National Reading Month, and Father Doyle School will be celebrating all month long! Check out a few upcoming events:
Weekly Evening Story Time via Zoom
Get cozy and relax, then join us for Story Time on Zoom every Wednesday in March beginning at 7pm. Each week we will have a special guest from the FJVD family reading a story live for our PK-2nd grade students. Older students are welcome to join as well!
Sign up for any (or all!) Wednesday's you would like to attend, and a separate Zoom invite will be sent out for each night. Please sign up for the first night by March 1st by visiting bit.ly/FJVDStoryTime. You can sign up for as many nights as you'd like!
We have also our students in Grades 3 - 8 to record and reading to share throughout the month of March, and we will be making those videos available as well to watch anytime! See below for more information if your child would be interested in recording a story!
Interested in helping out with Story Time?
We would like to invite our 3rd - 8th grade students to join us in creating Story Time videos for our younger students. All that you would need to do is send in a video of your child reading a children's book aloud, and we will do the rest! We will put these videos together, and make them make available to our families to watch with their younger students. The children's book can be chosen from the library at school or from your home library. Please sign up here by March 3rd if you are interested in participating and we will email you more information. If you have any questions, please contact Jen Marra at jennmarra@fjvd.org
More information is included in the Story Time Flyer here and attached below!
Reading Week
Each year, Father Doyle celebrates Reading Week with various activities and events. This year, Reading Week will be held March 22nd-March 26th. Stay tuned for more details coming soon!
Annual Read-a-thon
Our Annual Read-a-thon will kick-off on March 22nd and run through April 2nd. This yearly event is a great way to support and encourage literacy while also supporting our school. More details regarding sign-ups and other fundraising information will be available soon!
Teachers Read!
As much as we want to encourage reading and literacy in our students, we know the one of the best methods to do so is to show that reading and literacy is important to our faculty and staff! With this in mind, the month of March will feature an "FJVD Teachers Read" bulletin board where students can see what books teachers have read, are reading, and can't wait to read!
St. Patrick's Day Concert with the COVID Fightin' Irish!
Tickets go on sale Monday for another FJVD PTO and SSJP Parish sponsored fun family event: The “Covid-Fightin’ Irish” Outdoor Drive-In Concert, Saturday March 13 at 7pm, with the Saints John and Paul Irish Band, featuring Fr. Michael O’Woolley and Mr. Peloquin's Irish born father-in-law, Kieran Keating! Only 100 tickets will be sold and the event is expected to sell out fast, so get your tickets ASAP! More information can be found in the flyer here and attached below.
Auction Preparations Continue!
The Auction Committee is looking for volunteers to help with this year’s auction. It can be just an hour or two spread over several weeks, and it does not need to be a large, long-term commitment. Best of all, it can all be done from home and in your own time! Areas of assistance include composing Thank You notes, updating Facebook information, inputting information on the auction website, and coordinating and writing descriptions for our auction packages. If any of these things sound like something you might be willing to help with, or have ideas you would like to share, please email fjvdauctioncommittee@fjvd.org and let them know. Thank you again to all who have already donated to help make this year's auction a success!
Spring Picture Day - March 16th
Our Spring Picture Day is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16th. Students may dress out of uniform for picture day. Digital sign up information will be sent to families next week.
Have a great weekend! God bless, and go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin

Current RIDOH Quarantine Guidance (Non-Travel)
On December 10, 2020, the Rhode Island Department of Health released new Quarantine Guidance for confirmed close contacts of a positive case. A detailed summary of this guidance can be found here.
Generally, the guidance allows for:
- 14 Day Quarantine for Immunocompromised and/or Long-Term Care Staff
- 10 Day Quarantine for General Public (while continuing to monitor for symptoms)
- 7 Day Quarantine with Negative Test at least 5 Days After Last Exposure
A reminder that the Department of Health is the only organization that can mandate a person quarantine. The school will continue to address necessary hybrid learning scenarios on a case by case basis in consultation with the Department of Health.
Hybrid Learning & Distance Learning Policies
As shared with families via email we have updated our Hybrid Learning and Distance Learning Policies and Procedures. You can find those changes outlined in the documents attached below, as well as linked here:
Hybrid Learning Letter to Families
Distance Learning Opt-In Dates
In addition, you can view a brief video summary of the updates here. We hope these changes will help make hybrid and distance learning increasingly manageable and effective for staff, students, and families alike!
Probable Cases & Testing Procedures
The Department of Health has released additional resources for families regarding how to proceed if your child has symptoms at home or becomes ill at school. You can find the RIDOH Resources for Families here. Please note, if your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 that indicate a probable case, please call 844-857-1814 from 7:30am-9:30pm seven days a week to schedule a test through the K-12 Testing Network. You should also notify the school as soon as possible.
If your child is experiencing symptoms and is being tested, two tests will be conducted at the K-12 testing site - a rapid test with results within 24 hours, and a PCR test with results within 48 hours. Please note, students are not permitted to return to school until both tests are negative and symptoms have resolved. In addition, families must complete the After Illness Return Attestation Form which can also be found on the homepage of our school website under "Important Links."
A reminder that our hybrid learning policies for students absent due to illness or quarantine can be found in our Hybrid Learning Guide for Students and Families as well as in a quick reference guide here.
Fundraising & Contest Opportunities
Participate in the FJVD Certificate Program!
This program is a great way to reduce the cost of your tuition while supporting FJVDl!
The Process:
- The school purchases shopping cards from all of your favorite stores
- You purchase the cards from the school, paying face value and spending the same dollars you would have paid to the stores directly
- The school earns a percentage discount offered by participating stores.
For each $50.00 you spend, you get a stamp on your Tuition Discount Card. Fill the entire card and redeem it for a $75.00 check!
Cards currently available include:

Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
