A Message from the Administration
We’ve got spirit, Yes we do!
by Greg Marino
One of the many great things about working in the Williston Schools is chance to work with people who have great passion and spirit for what they do. As I mention last month, this year we decided to tap into that wonderful Williston spirit and circle-up around two big events happening in our schools this year; the WCS Renovation, and celebrating the 20th year of Allen Brook School being opened. As you may have read in my last note, we marked the occassion with the distribution of rally T-shirts for everyone who works in our two schools. So, now that we have the shirts, we just had to break them out in a super fun way. What better way to show off some new spirit wear than to have a selfie contest! Williston faculty and staff rose to the challenge of creating an award winning selfie that exemlified the spirit of our two rallying points this year. We had a great time with this and are already scheming about our next rally shirt day - coming soon. Please take a minute to watch this fun video that includes all of the selfies from the contest. We have posted this on facebook as well. You can see that Williston faculty and staff are truly a spirited bunch. I hope this video brings a smile to your face, as it does for me, even after viewing it five or six times! Though two winners were already selected from this first contest, it might be fun to get into the act with some voting at your home and see who comes out on top!
We are the Williston Schools. We’ve got Spirit, Yes We Do!
Renovation Update: I know that many of you have been following the progress of the WCS renovation on the renovation website. We will continue to use this tool to send out regular updates, mostly via pictures. If you have not already checked out the site, here’s a link. There will be another big update next week, featuring some of the finishing touches of the renovation of the kaleidoscope / Harbor areas. It is really exciting to see the project progress as the weeks go by.
As always, thank you for your continued partnership in the adventure of learning here at Williston.

Developmental Screening for Children ages 3-5 years
Do you have concerns about your child’s development? Allen Brook School is offering a developmental screening for children ages 3-5 years. A screening can be used to determine if children are learning basic skills and meeting developmental milestones. Early childhood professionals will engage in activities which will allow them to observe the way your child plays, learns, speaks, and moves their body. Each child is unique and develops at his or her own pace, but sometimes concerns can arise, and it is helpful to identify these concerns as early as possible to in order to get necessary supports in place.
Friday, October 27th from 9:00 - 11:00. Pre-registration is required.
Please call Victoria Francis, Early Childhood Outreach Educator,
at 871-6240 to schedule an appointment.
(* If you have concerns about a younger child and would like to request a screening, please call us.)

Flu Information
It’s flu season, and school is a place where germs are shared generously among students, teachers and school staff. The single best way to protect your entire family against flu is for all people aged six months and older to get an influenza vaccine each year. Young children are among those at higher risk of flu complications. Every year thousands of children younger than age five are hospitalized because of flu illness, and while it is rare, some children die from flu each year.

Medicine Abuse
October is Medicine Abuse Awareness Month
We live in a society where the potential for prescription drug abuse and addition is ever present. Talking regularly to youth about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs reduces their risk of using in the first place. Read more
