Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary
December Newsletter Volume 1 ; Issue 2
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School Family,
Happy December! This month marks an end to the year 2015 and as I reflect on our growth as a school, I am very proud of our accomplishments and eager about the work we have ahead of us in 2016.
As we prepare for our Scholars to spend time with family and friends, I would like to emphasize the importance of reading during winter break. Our Scholars have worked very hard towards their reading goal and building their reading stamina. To continue this work, please make sure your child reads each day during winter break. Take part in our December Challenge and visit your local library. Research has shown that students who do not read will regress causing them to drop 1-2 reading levels.
I wish you a restful winter break filled with love and joy during the holiday season. I can't wait to see staff for a Professional Development Day on January 4, 2016 and students on January 5, 2016.
Looking forward to a new year of Believing, Building, and Blooming in 2016!
Katrina W. Granger, Principal

December Challenge
How often do you visit your local library? When was the last time you checked out library books? Do you have a library card? This month we have 2 challenges:
1. Get a library card
2. Check out books from the library at least once a week
Our winter break begins Monday, December 21, 2015 and students return Tuesday, January 5, 2016. We encourage you to spend time at the library. The children's area offers events each month and it is a great place to enjoy a few books. Don't forget to check out books to enjoy at home with family and friends. Remember a reader lives a thousand lives, whereas, the man who never reads lives only one!
Our local library, the Riviera Beach Library, is located at 600 West Blue Heron Blvd and the phone number is (561) 845-4195.
