Students learned about the prewriting, drafting, revising and editing, and publishing steps of the writing process using play dough. Dylan drafted his very own "Mrs. Janutolo" but revised my midsection! Jin drafted some snails. She will add antennae as a revision. Ask your child what he/she created and how the creation was revised to make it even better!

Hamilton County Historian

We enjoyed learning about the history of Fishers with the Hamilton County Historian, David Heighway!

HSE Superintendent Dr. Allen Bourff

We loved having our Superintendent visit this week. He informed us about the importance of community in our school district.

Walt Kelly, former Town Council President

Mr. Kelly shared his commitment and knowledge of our community of Fishers!

NWEA Results

NWEA testing has been completed and we will be sharing those results with you next Friday afternoon via e-mail. A letter will also be sent explaining in more detail about the NWEA testing results.

2nd Grade Study Trip to Conner Prairie

All 2nd graders will participate in a study trip to Conner Prairie on Thursday, September 10th! We are asking that all second graders bring in a disposable sack lunch for our trip. In addition, we will be busy exploring, so please have your child wear comfortable walking shoes. If you have not returned your child's permission slip, please do so ASAP!

Box Tops

TCE has already collected 2,000 box tops and labels for education over the summer and hope that we can continue to earn even more! Please view the attached document to find out how we can earn more box tops for our school.

Liger XC Mile

The 2015 Liger XC Mile will take place on Thursday, October 15th at Hamilton Southeastern High School. The race/walk is for ALL K-6th grade students in the Hamilton Southeastern School District. Please view the attached form for more information about this event!

Grandparents Day!

Mark your calendars as Grandparents Day will be held on Friday, September 25th! The schedule will be as follows:


1st Grade- 10:00-10:40

2nd Grade- 10:30-11:10

3rd Grade- 9:35-10:15

4th Grade- 10:55-11:35

1/2 Day for Students

Next Friday, September 11th will be a half day for all students for teacher professional development. Students will dismiss at 12:01. Please let your child's teacher know if there is a change in your child's dismissal routine on this day.

Labor Day

There will be no school on Monday September 7th due to the Labor Day holiday.

Lunch Visitors

Visitors Lunches Starts After Labor Day, Tuesday, September 8th: Visitors with approved background checks who have also viewed the anti-bullying video may come in to lunch after Labor Day. There is a ten visitor maximum so please call the TCE office at 594-4310 by 9:30 am on the day you would like to come in for lunch.

Book Fees Have Been Posted on Skyward

Parents can view book fees on Skyward now. Payments are due September 15th. Make checks payable to TCE and note that they are for book fees. Families may also use the eFunds payment option in Skyward. It takes about 10 days to post book fee payments on the Skyward account. Families interested in the Free/Reduced program must apply each year. For more information about Free/Reduced program, which covers cafeteria and book fee assistance, please review your child’s 1st Day Folder. If you have questions about the Free/Reduced program, please contact Pat Lines in the TCE office.

Snack Attack Snack Drive Continues!

Snack Attack provides TCE students in need with a sack of healthy snacks to take home on Fridays to help them through the weekend until they can return to school on Monday for a hot meal.

Our Dad’s Club is sponsoring our Snack Drive. Please consider donating individually wrapped snack items. Bins will be located outside of the school office. Suggested items include: granola bars, pudding, popcorn, fruit cups, crackers, etc.

If your child is in need and would appreciate receiving these weekly bags of snacks, please contact our school counselor, Mrs. Jackie Fiesbeck, at 594-4310 or The recipients of Snack Attack remain confidential.

We Are Learning...


In reading next week, we will continue to learn and practice expectations for reading workshop. We will practice choosing and reading good fit books, building our reading stamina, thinking and talking about our reading, and applying the reading strategies we have learned for accuracy, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.


In writing next week, we will work hard to continue to build our classroom writing community. Students will practice writing workshop procedures. They will generate ideas, make a plan for writing, write stories, share their writing, and listen to the writing of others.

Word Study

Word study in 2nd grade includes spelling, phonics, and vocabulary development. Next week we will continue to review some of the important sounds and patterns in our language, helping us to build a foundation for reading, writing, and spelling.


In math, we will continue our study on Addition and Subtraction Strategies. In this unit, students will understand and apply multiple strategies for addition and subtraction. Important vocabulary words for this unit include: addition fact, subtraction fact, equation, nuimber sentence, number line, fact family, inverse operation, sum, difference, and related facts.

Social Studies

In social studies next week, we will continue our study of communities. We will study the important features of our local community and community maps. We will explore our local community's past and present. We will conclude with our study trip to Conner Prairie!
