Mrs. Couto
FMS Social Studies
A little bit about me
I have been married to my college sweetheart, Phillip, for 13 years. We met at Texas Tech and are HUGE Red Raider fans. I have 3 sons--Nathaniel, Gabriel, and Jacob--who always manage to keep me very busy. When not at soccer, basketball, baseball, or football practice or grading papers, I try to make it to FMS sporting events, band and choir concerts, etc. If you participate in any FMS activities, you will probably see us eventually!
I have moved around a lot. I have lived 8 states--Alaska, Texas, Wisconsin, California, Florida, New Mexico, Nebraska, and Missouri (not necessarily in that order). I have also spent over 5 years of my life living in Germany. My two younger sons were born in Wiesbaden, Germany. My husband is the son of Portuguese immigrants from the Azore Islands. My family has experienced many unique places, cultures, and people, and I love to bring those experiences into the classroom for my students!
I am truly passionate about what I do. I grew up dreaming of being an archaeologist. Life took me in a different direction, and now I get to share my love of history with my students!

Class Expectations and Information
2. Late work will be accepted with the following conditions: the highest grade possible on a late assignment is an 70 AND work for the first half of the six weeks will not be accepted after progress reports (the third week of a six weeks). Following an absence, students should come to me to pick up any missed assignments. Students will have the number of days missed to make up those assignments before they are considered "late."
3. Every student will have the opportunity to correct exams.
Remind 101
I will be using Remind 101 to send out reminders for tests, projects, and homework assignments. Remind 101 is a way for me to give parents information confidentially (via text)--I will not have access to your cell phone number or other information. If you would like to receive reminders from me this way, text the following response to the corresponding phone number.
Sixth Grade:
Text: @yayfms to (806) 731-4165
Eighth Grade:
Text: @fmsrocks to (806) 731-4165
Remind 101 will then send a text back to you asking you to text your name in order for me to verify and allow you into the group. Please text your student's name as well, so that I can keep up track of which students' parents I am reaching.
If, at any time, you decide you would no longer like to receive updates via text, you may log in and remove yourself from the group. It's simple and easy and will hopefully allow you to keep your finger on the pulse of what's going on with your student in Social Studies. Thanks in advance for your participation! :)
