NOVEMBER 4-8

THANKSGIVING REMINDERS

Feast is November 22 from 9:15-10:15 FOR BOTH CLASSES!

NO PM CLASS THAT DAY!

Please remember one guest/child and no younger siblings.

Papers confirming what food you will bring will be sent home soon!

OUR CURRENT STUDY IS...

TREES! TREES! TREES! This week we learned about who takes care of trees. We learned the difference between a forester, a nursery worker, and an arborist. We discussed how tree need someone to take care of them just like we do! The kids thought it was funny that trees need bandages just like we do sometimes.

We will be looking for a volunteer in two weeks (Nov 18-22). We need someone who makes things out of wood! This can be professionally or as a hobby! Please let me know. Ideally we would have someone come talk to both AM and PM classes on Tuesday November 19th! Thank you!

SMALL GROUP ACTIVITIES

I SEE IN MY TREE BOOK: We made a class book about what we each would like to see in our own tree. "Jake, Jake, what do you see? I see a _________ in my tree" The kids have enjoyed looking at these.

HOW BIG AROUND: We measured the circumference of many classroom objects with yarn. The were sometimes surprised to see that taller things may not be that big around. Try this activity at home...they really liked it!

PLAY DOUGH: We made trees and tree objects out of play dough. It's not as easy as you would think!!

PATTERNS IN A TREE: We looked at environmental patterns. We also made patterns with different objects in the classroom.

LEMONADE: Lemons grow on trees...so we made lemonade. Yummy!!!!!

BOOKS WE READ

Growing Trees: This story was about foresters, arborists, and nursery workers. It taught us many tree facts! It told how you can tell how old a tree is by counting the rings in the trunk.

Our Tree Named Steve: Repeated from a few weeks ago. It's about how one specific tree was important in the lives of a family!

SONGS AND POEMS

ECHO CLAPPING

Ask your child to "echo" your claps.

Clap three times. Have them repeat it.

Clap different patterns for them to echo (clap, clap, PAUSE, clap, clap, clap)

GREAT to play in the car!!!!

JOLLY PHONICS

The kids are introduced to a sound every week. Sounds are introduced in a very specific order that helps facilitate early literacy skills. The program uses songs, stories, hand motions, and activities to allow plenty of practice with these sounds. This week was the "P" sound. Our next one is the "n" sound.
