Modern Dance

History of Modern

Modern dance started to show up in the early 20th century when many choreographers started to rebel against the main dance form of the time, ballet. These choreographers wanted to get away from the structure and discipline of ballet and do something more free and unstructured. The people credited with pioneering modern dance are Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, and Martha Graham.
