Week 3 - Term 2 2022

Big picture

Kia ora e te whānau,

This week is Friendship week with Pink Shirt day on Friday the 20th. We have been talking about ways of being kind and helping each other, particularly in relation to our grow values. On Friday we are being bright and colourful to celebrate diversity and promote kindness and inclusiveness. Any gold coin donations that the children bring goes to the Mental Health foundation.

It has been marvellous to get to meet some of you during our learning conferences this week. If you haven't been able to get to see us and you would like to please email your child's homeroom teacher. They will be able to give you some feedback about school. If you ever have any concerns or queries though, please contact us, we are always keen to help.

It is an exciting day on Thursday as we are having a zoom meeting with some scientists in Antarctica. We have been writing questions for them as part of our hot/cold inquiry. The teachers are looking forward to it as much as the kids!

Ngā mihi,

Pounamu Teachers.

Cross-country

Well done to all the Pounamu children who participated in cross-country last week. A lot of GRIT was shown as well as looking after OTHERS.

Children who came in the top 4 will be invited to participate in the Junior invitational at Amesbury School on Thursday the 2nd of June.

We will contact you with more details about this if your child qualified.

Clothing

It is getting colder and our classes are being well ventilated to help prevent the spread of infections. Remember that the children will need a jumper and/or jacket at school. We expect the kids to play outside if it is not raining.

We have a lost property bin at school. Most of the clothes are unnamed. Please name clothes so we can get things back to the correct people.

Covid - Orange level expectations

There are no requirements for masks at our year level but Pounamu children and teachers may decide to wear masks if they choose to.

We are able to have syndicate assemblies inside.

Parents are allowed onto the grounds but are asked to wear masks if they are coming into a classroom.

Library times

We have turns going to the library on Fridays. On an odd week Rooms 3 & 5 go, on an even week Rooms 2 & 4 go.

This week is week 3 so Rooms 3 & 5 will be going.
