ELAR/Social Studies:
- In Reading we are finishing up Argumentative Text before we begin our big STAAR review in preparation for our test in May. We have been studying how to recognize characteristics and structures of argumentative text, including identifying the author’s claim/position on a topic/issue, distinguishing facts from opinions, and identifying the author’s intended audience.
- In Social Studies we are identifying examples of ways individuals can improve the community. They are learning how individuals have developed new technology that affected life in communities around the world, past and present. They will also learn about some important scientists and inventors and explain the impact of their new ideas on communities.
- The kids have worked hard and I'm very proud of the progress they have made this year!
Whitney Lamming
4TH GRADE
Well, I think all the students enjoyed the break. I know I did. 🙂 But, we are back at it and we are working hard. This week students are taking the end of year MAP test and next week we will be taking some interim assessments. This will allow us to look at problem areas that we need to focus on before the STAAR in May. We will also continue our regular instruction as well.
4th Grade Math--we are spending some time going back over previously taught information and we will be concentrating on some of our trouble areas such as review of fractions, decimals, and long division. PLEASE be reviewing multiplication facts at home with your children.
4th Science---we just finished up talking about the moon, moon phases and the effect of the moon on tides in the oceans. We will be discussing food webs, food chains, and various ecosystems.
5th Science--we are discussing in depth ecosystems and biomes as well as food webs and food chains. The students have had some great discussions and questions. They seem to really enjoy this unit. I really look forward to their continued growth. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing your children with me 🙂
Mrs. Brown
This week has been full of testing and the children have shown HUGE growth! I am so proud of their hard work. We also spent time reviewing realistic fiction stories. We created story plot diagrams to help us understand conflicts and resolutions, along with lessons learned and different character traits.
Reminders..
- Every day at school counts! Students need to be here as we start the sprint to STAAR Preparation!
- Please push your children to read every night. They have a big goal of 8 AR points by April 8th.
- A friendly reminder to reach out to Mrs. Brown on Class Dojo for immediate responses while I am out on maternity leave.
- MAP Scores will be sent home soon.
Thank you for all you do to partner with me in your child's education!

Sra. Gámez
ELAR:
We have kicked things into gear and are working very hard already this quarter. We are learning about argumentative texts right now and focusing on what a claim is and how we can create a powerful argument. We will continue this some into next week and then start on STAAR review.
Social Studies:
We are moving from the Reconstruction Era and into more modern US History. We are soon going to be discussing topics like the First World War and Great Depression. This time period is truly my favorite and I love talking about it with students. I can't wait for them to learn more about this part of our history!
Reminders:
- Please have your child here as much as possible! We are ramping up and really focusing on STAAR review. Every instructional minute counts to help your child be successful.
- Please be sure your child is reading at LEAST 20 minutes per night. We have big AR goals to meet this quarter and I know every student can meet them! I want every student to meet them. The more your child reads, the better they will do in all aspects of their education.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions!
Thank you!
Mrs. Rasco
