Letter from Montag
To: Citizens of 2016
Dear Citizens of 2016,
There have been drastic changes since 2016. Some things that have changed are the way people socialize, transportation, teenagers, what people do for fun, technology, and school.
How People Socialize
In my society "socializing" is considered enjoying sitting in class and not asking questions, then when school is over going to break windowpanes or race on the streets. Also, if someone doesn't act like most people then they are labelled as "anti-social".
Transportation
Here in my time we drive very fast. Advertisers even had to extend billboards from twenty feet long to two hundred feet long so cars rushing by would be able to read them. My neighbor Clarisse McClellan's uncle even got arrested for walking!
Teenagers
Teenagers in my time are out of control. They are nothing like the teenagers in your time. My neighbor Clarisse said that six of her friends have been shot in the last year and ten of them died in car wrecks.
They all say the same things and nobody says anything different from anyone else.
What People Do For Fun
There is only one family that I know that acts "peculiar" in my time, and they are the McClellans. They just sit around and enjoy each other's company and talk.
Everyone else is either violent and they wreck cars or bully people, or, they are hooked on their electronics.
Also, books are illegal so no one reads anymore.
Technology
Technology has drastically changed. Inventors created an interactive TV where you can talk to people through the TV screen and they are called your TV family. Another invention that was created is a Mechanical Dog. It a dog that injects people with lethal poison if people do something that is considered wrong in my society. Also, inventors created seashell ear-thimbles that are like earbuds that supply entertainment.
School
I personally don't attend school but my neighbor Clarisse told me that in school children don't really lean anymore. They play a lot of sports and have films that teach them lessons that a teacher usually would. Children typically aren't asked to think at all.
Change Your Ways
There are so many ways that you, the citizens of 2016, can change so that your society won't end up like mine. Some of these include spending more time with your family and friends, putting down electronics, and reading more books.
Spend More Time With Family and Friends
People here don't really talk to their family or friends and you can help change that by spending time with them. You don't necessarily have to just sit around and talk but you should at least spend quality time together. Even playing a fun game would work!
This will ensure that families talk to each other and spend time together.
Put Down Electronics
People here spend way too much time on electronics and you can help limit that by putting down your electronics. When I say put down your electronics I don't mean give them up entirely but instead of watching TV for 4 hours straight maybe watch it for 30 minutes and then go outside or play with your dog.
This will ensure that no one gets hooked onto electronics instead of doing productive things.
Read A Book
I truly believe that if people in my society would be smarter and make better decisions. But you don't have to read a book a day, just try to at least read for 30 minutes a day. There are many things that reading does for you. One is it increases your vocabulary. Also, it helps you spell and improves your writing skills.
This will ensure that people continue being smart and make wiser choices.
