MAVERICK MEMO
INDEPENDENCE ELEMENTARY, 8/25/17
EXCELLENT Start!
Thank you for the helping us have a wonderful start to our year!
You may have noticed that we moved our Fun Run to very early in the school year. This was very intentional. Our teachers are implementing a new Writing curriculum and new Reading lessons. To support our amazing teachers, we need your help to raise funds to purchase all the books needed to support their work. We are having our Fun Run early we will be able to purchase the books sooner and get them into our classrooms to benefit our Mavericks learning for the entire year.
We appreciate your support and look forward to some fun over the next two weeks. See you at the Fun Run!

Boosterthon 2017-2018
Parents! This year’s main fundraiser is the Mavericks' Fun Run! It’s a 9-day program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on Monday, August 28. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on Friday, September 8.
With our big goal of raising $25,000 for PTA programs and Classroom Literacy, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, CASTLE QUEST! an English castle theme all about being brave and living with character. On their quest to regain Bravemore Castle, students will learn the “SIX VIRTUES of a TRUE HERO” from a cast of colorful characters.
Donations will go toward PTA programs and Classroom Literacy. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run on Sept. 8! Thank you for your support!

College Colors Day
Keller ISD AVID encourages the District to participate in the National College Colors Day on Friday, September 1.
College Colors Day is an annual celebration dedicated to promoting college-readiness as well as the traditions and spirit that embody the college experience by encouraging fans across America to wear their favorite college colors/gear.
Keller ISD is excited to participate in this fun, District-wide event and is encouraging all students, faculty, staff members, and administrators to dress in their favorite college attire on September 1.
Use #KISDCollegeColors to post your pictures to Twitter and follow along throughout the day to see photos from other campuses and departments!
Keller ISD AVID hopes you will join in as we kick-off the school year with a focus on college-readiness!

Policy Reminder: Birthday Treats
Due to the increasing amount of classroom allergies, we now have a school-wide policy of no edible birthday treats in the classroom. Parents may provide a non-edible birthday treat at the end of the day. Some alternative suggestions are pencils, erasers, trinkets, etc. Birthday invitations may be given to the entire class, all the girls, or all the boys in a class. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility with this matter.
We appreciate your support in helping keep ALL of our kids safe.
