Happenings Around Dry Creek Elementary

Dear Dry Creek Families,

Each spring we go through the process of staffing the school for the following school year. This process involves using projected enrollments for each grade and making staffing decisions based on our allotted staffing FTE. As I have presented at our parent committee groups, Dry Creek's staffing formula for 2022-23 shows a decline in enrollment from previous years' projections. Due to some changes in the funding model, Dry Creek is able to maintain appropriate class sizes across grades, even with our decline in FTE and enrollment. As a result, there have been several adjustments to our proposed staffing plan for next year which can be accessed below. Please know that the staff placements listed below are subject to change and will likely change prior to the start of school in August. Please reach out if you would like more details about the staffing formula or with any questions about how we make staffing plans.

Thank you!

-Mr. Watanabe

Class Placements 2022-23

As we continue to plan for 2022-23, generating class lists is one of the most important processes we do in order to create the foundation for continued success in the upcoming school year. The process of generating class lists is collaborative in nature and involves staff members from all sectors of our school: Homeroom Teachers, Student Achievement Services, Gifted and Talented, English Language Acquisition, Specials, TAs, and Office Staff. The integrity and professionalism of our staff is the foundation of our wonderful school. We feel that we know each of our students well: learning styles, relationships with peers, academic strengths and weaknesses, etc. Our intention is to create groups of students who reflect balance and cohesiveness. Student placement is based upon many considerations. Some of the influencing factors in this process include:

  • Balance of male and female students

  • A heterogeneous range of reading, writing, and math in each room

  • Consideration of emotional needs, giftedness, and other special needs

  • Separation of social conflicts

  • Balance of students with strong leadership qualities

Due to the complexity of staffing plans and the class placement process, we are not able to honor specific requests for a classroom teacher. If you would like to add to our knowledge of your child’s academic, social, emotional, or behavioral needs, you may do so in writing to the principal no later than Friday, April 29,2021. The needs you share will be treated as part of the process in making assignments for next year. Requests for specific teachers should not be part of the information you share. Please respect the integrity of this process. Thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation!

Students and families will have the opportunity to meet their teacher on August 11, 2022. Class lists will be posted on Tuesday August 9, 2022.

CMAS Testing is underway!

The Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) assessments will be administered to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students in April. Last year, each grade level was only required to take one content area assessment. This year, students will be taking both English/Language Arts and Math for third and fourth grades. For fifth grade, students will take English/Language Arts, Math, and Science.

Dates of Testing:

3rd Grade: April 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18 from 8:30-10:30am

4th Grade: April 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18 from 8:30-10:30am

5th Grade: April 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21 from 8:30-10:30am

As has always been the case for parents in Colorado, you can excuse your student from CMAS testing. If this is your choice, please fill out the exemption form located on the State Assessment Exemption tile at my.cherrycreekschools.org. You can view instructions for filling out the exemption here.

Students who have been opted out by parents may come to school on these days and will be provided with an alternative activity while classmates are taking CMAS. For those who would like to keep students home during testing times, please make sure students are at school by 10:30am. The schedule has been designed to provide the least amount of impact on instructional time for students and all students will resume normal academic schedules after the testing sessions are completed.

Non-Resident Applications now open!

Non-resident applications for all returning and new non-resident students are open. As a reminder, all non-residents must re-apply every year for admission. If you have questions or need additional information please call Becky Del Ponte at (720) 554-3300.

Volunteer Policy

If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the online volunteer form. It should only take a few minutes to complete. We want to thank you in advance and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

New Colorado legislation has prompted a greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. Therefore, beginning January 2022, we must ensure that every volunteer completes a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools. This information will be automatically linked to the Raptor System. The good news is they only need to complete this form once per school year, and it will meet the requirement to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.

To access the form, please click on the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NzU0OmVuLVVT

Definitions

  • Volunteers are guests who are supporting students, completing tasks, and under the immediate supervision and direction of District licensed personnel.

  • Visitors are guests who are solely entering the building to conduct business such as participate in a meeting, eat lunch with their student, or attend a school-sponsored activity.

The safety and security of our students and staff remain our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a District ID or a badge printed from the Raptor System.

Thank you again for your continued support.
