The Good News
October 23, 2016 - St. John XXIII School
Leadership Team Message
Sunday blessings everyone,
It's certainly hard to believe that October is almost over! Where did those two months go? Before you know it, November break will be upon us.
It’s great to see students settled into their classrooms and working and learning each day. Now that we are in our routine and things are running smoothly, we have noticed that we have some children who are arriving at school too early. Our practice at St. John XXIII has been to have our doors open at 8:40 to allow students to come in as they arrive. Our bell goes at 8:45 with the prayer followed at 8:50. Official supervision does not begin until 8:30 outside so it is best if children arrive close to, or just after that. We realize this doesn’t always jive with work or life schedules so some families have to be creative, and we very much appreciate that.
Thank you for trying to get your children here and on time and not too early (or too late). Also, we’d like to remind parents to check into the office anytime you are in the school - this is for SAFETY reasons, please! We need to know who is in our building at all times. Please do not be offended if a staff asks if you have "signed-in", it is for your children's safety. Also, don't forget to sign out as you leave, too.
Blessings,
Mrs. Melnyk & Mrs. Weller

3-Way Conferences
Catholic Education Mass November 5th
We are invited by our Catholic bishops from across Alberta and the Northwest Territories to celebrate the gift of Catholic education. We will join Our Lady of the Angels School and St. John Paul II High School at the 5:15 Mass on November 5th at OLA Church to pray that "Christ the Teacher inspire us and guide us in the coming year to be his disciples, his hands and feet and his eyes to all those we encounter."
Please click here to read more from a letter from our bishops.
Farm to School Healthy Choice Fundraiser
A reminder that order forms and payment for the "Farm to School" veggie fundraiser are due back at school this coming Friday, October 28th. Vegetables will be ready for pickup on November 8th from 3:30 - 8:00 pm. This fundraising initiative goes to support our Servant Leadership Squad (SLS) and the Food Bank.
Kanga Pouches have arrived
PSC Halloween Dance
The Halloween dance is a great fundraiser for our school and the PSC is asking for your support. If you would like to make a donation please email Jenny Northrup at jjnorthrup@telus.net. Thank you all in advance for your continued support.
Deadline for tickets October 26th.
Pumpkins on the Bus
With Halloween around the corner we would like to remind parents that Transportation cannot transport large pumpkins on our buses. If your child needs to bring a pumpkin to school, and will need to bring it home on the bus, a small pumpkin which will fit inside the their backpack is acceptable.
We would like to avoid disappointing students who have worked so hard on their pumpkins and then are refused by the driver to take them home with them.
