Ascension of the Lord
29 May 2022
Readings for today
1st Reading: Acts 1:1-11
2nd Reading: Hebrews 9:24-28; 10:19-23
Gospel: Luke 24:46-53
Welcome to the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary & St Matthew
The world needs the Good News of the Ascension of Jesus Christ. Pope Francis tells us,
“The Ascension does not point to Jesus’ absence, but tells us that he is alive in our midst in a new way. He is now in the Lordship of God, present in every space and time, close to each one of us.”
Pope Francis Monthly Intention: Faith-Filled Young People
We pray for all young people, called to live life to the fullest; may they see in Mary’s life the way to listen, the depth of discernment, the courage that faith generates, and the dedication to service.
Loving God,
often giving into temptation and weakness,
we forget that You alone are God.
Help us to avoid greed in all its forms,
seeking satisfaction from things
that are passing and being indifferent
to the cries of those who suffer pain.
May we allow the Gospel
to teach us that all human life is sacred,
that everyone has a right to a place
in Your world and that the desire for peace
resides in every vulnerable human heart.
We offer You, Most High and Glorious God,
the pain of our war-torn and hurting world
and entrust to Your care those who have lost their lives,
those who grieve for them and
those who have to leave their homes to be safe.
Inspire those with power to see that violence
is not the path to peace and to pursue resolutions
to conflicts that respect human dignity.
Loving God, hear all of our prayers
and those in hearts throughout the world
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

At Marian Catholic School we have a fund to support families. Our community like many others has been affected by Covid and recent increases to our cost of living, leaving some families needing a little extra support to meet their daily needs.
We use this fund for many things, including: help with uniforms, paying for stationery, school camps and school lunches.
If you are able or would like to contribute to this Welfare Fund for Marian School we would really appreciate your generosity.

We pray for the Ukraine...
Holy and Gracious God
We pray for the people of the Ukraine, for their country and their leader.
We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.
We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness.
We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace.
We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.
Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace in Ukraine.
And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son.
Lord have mercy.
Amen
