LCISD's Statement Regarding the Coronavirus - Updated March 2nd
The health and wellness of students and staff is extremely important to Lubbock-Cooper ISD administrators. LCISD health professionals and administrators are closely monitoring Coronavirus (COVID-19) activity in the United States. Current CDC guidelines dictate a risk assessment to be utilized in public health management scenarios (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/public-health-management-decision-making.pdf), which includes a series of “yes” or “no” questions regarding recent travel and potential exposure. These guidelines are designed for those “at risk for exposure,” which individuals in our area are not thought to be at this time.
According to the CDC, “Most often, spread from person-to-person occurs during close exposure to a person infected with COVID-19. Person-to-person spread is thought to occur mainly via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, similar to how influenza viruses and other respiratory pathogens spread. Precautions are similar to preventing the spread of the flu virus.”
LCISD healthcare staff will continue to enforce the district’s fever-free policy and additional district guidelines for removal of students with symptoms of any contagious illnesses. All individuals are encouraged to:
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
LCISD administrators will continue working closely with the Texas Education Agency and local and state health agencies to monitor illness activity and work to keep our students and staff healthy.
