Wishing You Well in the New Year
It has been good to be back with your children. They define joy and are a sparkling reminder of the big picture. Thank you for sharing them with us each day.
Our staff was deeply engaged in an antiracism professional learning last week. We are growing our understanding of ourselves and working together to ensure that all students are seen, celebrated, and feel that they belong. Their story matters. I am excited to do this work.
Below are lots and lots of resources for you. We have been through A LOT. And the road continues. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything you or your child needs. We are here for you.
There is a fantastic read-aloud happening in less than an hour with Joanna Ho. Please see details below, register and jump on Zoom!
There is also a Kinder Info Night tonight at 7pm on Zoom. Details are below. There are two evenings planned, so don't worry if you can't make this one.
As a reminder, there is no school this Monday, January 19th as we observe and reflect on the work and influence of the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The picture is compliments of OKC. They are spreading happiness at Ohlone!

Talking with Children
Fostering Independence
The pandemic has highlighted the importance of developing independence in learning, and that’s not always easy. The new PAUSD website, Supporting Learning at Home, includes a module focused on fostering independence. As children grow and mature, we can foster independence by allowing children to make choices, learn from them, experience failure and success and develop the resiliency they require to tackle any of life's challenges and obstacles. This module provides tips for families when encouraging independent thinking.
