HSE Message and Updates
April 5th, 2020
Dear Harvey-Swanson families,
As I write this message, I am thinking about how grateful I am to be a part of our Harvey-Swanson family. I continue to be overwhelmed by all of the kindnesses I see and all of the ways our HSE community is reaching out and teaming up. My gratitude list is a mile long right now, but here are just a couple that are top on my list. Thank you to all of our teachers and staff for staying connected to students and families and for creating meaningful learning opportunities for our students these past couple of weeks. Thank you to our families for their patience and support as we navigate this new territory together. At HSE we talk often about core strengths like kindness, perseverance, open-mindedness, and teamwork, and I can definitely say that we are living those values. I am proud to be on this team!
Following are some important updates as we move toward a distance learning model:
- There will not be an optional learning opportunities calendar this week like there was for the first two weeks of this school closure. Instead, administrators and teachers will engage in professional learning and collaboration to prepare to implement our distance learning model. Please read Dr. Outlaw’s most recent communication to families for detailed information about the governor’s order and the schedule for this upcoming week, April 6-10.
Our intention is to kick-off distance learning instruction on Monday, April 13. This date is tentative, pending approval of our continuity of learning plan as mandated in the governor’s order.
Technology deployment for those in need of devices will start Monday, April 6. If you find that you need a device for your child, you will find the link to complete a brief survey form within Dr. Outlaw’s letter to families.
- The Positivity Project character strength is wild card this week. It’s your choice to select which of the character traits we have already learned about this year that you’d like to highlight. Check this Positivity Project calendar to see the list of those we have covered so far this year.
Please check out this Mental Health Support document that can connect you with resources, if you or someone in your family needs support.
Be sure to visit our Harvey Hawk Facebook each morning to enjoy the latest read aloud from one of our staff.
The latest Achatz Pies fundraiser drop off date is tentatively scheduled for April 27th. Stay tuned for updates on this.
