Did You Know?

The Jordan District Digital Learning Department has many opportunities for professional development scheduled for the next few months.

Check out the Spring Course Catalog to see what is being offered.

If you are interested in a class that has already started, email the instructor to see if there is still room.

We also have courses that are being run through the STEM and Digital Learning Center. Courses will be at both the ASB and hosted at individual schools. Contact kami.taylor@jordandistrict.org if your school would like to host a training.

Technology Grants

It is grant writing season! If you are writing a grant for technology in your classroom, please check with your Digital Learning Specialist to make sure that the items you are purchasing are supported by the district.

Canvas Tip

Have you had a chance to play with New Quizzes? New Quizzes is an assessment engine that interacts with Canvas like it is an LTI tool. It replaces the classic quizzes in Canvas. New Quizzes has a variety of question types, including traditional questions and the addition of categorization, hot spots, and ordering.

What is the benefit of moving over to New Quizzes? New Quizzes assessments display as assignments in the Assignments page and can be duplicated easily. The Question Bank is also easier to use. You can easily monitor your assessments, moderate, and get reports on each assessment.

Google Tip

Translate your docs!

You and your students can use a tool that is built into Google Docs to translate that document from one language to another. This is great if you need to provide content for emerging English Language Learners or if you need to communicate with parents.

  1. In Google Drive, open your Docs file.
  2. At the top, click Tools and the Translate document.
  3. In the dialog box, name your translated copy of the document and select a language.
  4. Click Translate.

It is that simple. Plus, it creates a copy of the translated doc so you don't lose the original.

Tech Tip- Random Name Generator

There are a lot of ways to randomly select students for tasks, feedback, comments, etc. in your classroom. But, this one is fun and easy to use. Just copy and paste a list of your students into the provided area and away you go. You can even go in and see who has not yet been picked.

Classtools.net has a lot of great plug and play activities that you can use in your classroom for reviews and learning. Check them out.

Nearpod Tip

There are many ways to create slides for your Nearpod activities. Many of you are familiar with uploading PowerPoints or using the Google Slides add-on, but have you thought about Canva? Canva is a great tool with plenty of fonts, colors, and graphics to choose from. One of the best suggestions I can think of is to use Canva to create an infographic that the students can then write on or respond to in Nearpod. You can create graphics and so much more.

Thank You!

Teachers in the Jordan School District are doing many amazing things! Thank you all for your hard work and dedication and for everything you do for the students every single day. We appreciate you.
