STUDENTS

September is ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH

September is ATTENDANCE AWARENESS MONTH, a campaign that highlights the strong connection between school attendance and academic achievement.

Beginning as early as preschool and kindergarten, CHRONIC ABSENCES which include excused, unexcused, suspensions, etc. can leave third graders unable to read proficiently, sixth graders struggling with coursework, and high school students off track for graduation.

Our goal is that every student in our schools attend regularly.

To learn more about improving your student’s attendance, please contact the school social worker, Mindy Kneifl at 402-715-8473. Let’s start the year off right!

PARENTS

September is Suicide Awareness Month

Millard South High School recognizes September as Suicide Awareness Month. In order to promote awareness, the district requires the schools to complete a "child find" to see if any students have concerns regarding depression or suicide. During the weeks of September 9th-13th and 16th-20th, PRIDE Time teachers will pass out a hotline card and show a short video on the signs of depression and suicide. The students will then complete the MPS CARES questionnaire that asks students if they know someone or are personally experiencing thoughts of suicide or depression. The questionnaire will be collected and evaluated by the counseling center staff. Rest assured if there is any need for parent contact after this activity, a counselor will follow up with the parents. Millard South cares about each of our students! If you would like to opt your student out of this activity, contact the Counseling Office at 402-715-8432 or email kameier@mpsomaha.org. If your student is absent during the MPS CARES questionnaire, he/she is welcome to see a school counselor for additional information. Thank you for your support of this activity.
