Meals
By now you have probably heard that Congress didn't renew the pandemic waivers that were in place for SY 2021-2022. We have been patiently waiting to see if they would reverse their decision but it looks like that isn't going to happen. One of the waivers was that reimbursable meals would be free for everyone. Because this waiver hasn't been renewed, only students who qualify as free will continue to receive free meals. I know that this will cause a decrease in breakfast participation across the district.
Last year we had some buildings that picked up breakfast at grab and go stations or were delivered to the classroom. Because everyone was free we were able to hand out breakfast outside of the cafeteria and use tally sheets to record meals served. This school year we need to ring students through the POS system to track free, reduced and full pay students like we did before COVID.

APEX Course Tips
*If you score below 60% on any quizzes, you will need to retake those before taking the test.
(Please speak with your content teacher on specific Coursework Details)
Grades are calculated as 80% tests and 20% quizzes and study guides. Therefore, if you do not pass your tests, you will not pass the class. Please keep in mind that the grade you see on APEX may not always be accurate. Students should reach out to content teacher for updated grades.
Parents/Guardians
In order to see what assignments your student has completed, go to the home screen in APEX and click on the percent grade next to the course name. This will show you a list of all assignments, and the date completed. The assignments that say custom are teacher created materials. You should ask your student to show you daily/weekly.
Graduation Plans
Each student HAS a graduation plan that is created when they are enrolled at PAS. These plans are shared with students and are shared with parents/guardians. Please contact our school counselor Michelle Hurd for graduation plan details. (michelle_hurd@plsd.us)
Pickerington Alternative School: Academic Extensions and Work based learning opportunities
Our academic extensions will consist of dual enrollments for electives and/or core classes at our traditional high schools, attending sessions at the Pickerington Alternative School, or attending the Workforce Center for seniors.
Attending the Workforce Center was run as a pilot last school year for Pickerington students and will continue for the 22-23 school year. The Workforce Center is located in Carrol, Ohio and originally was set up to provide Adult Career based Education opportunities. Through conversations with Hocking College and OUL, we are able to use the facility for our students. We are extremely excited for this opportunity to strengthen our career readiness programming. Our approach will provide more opportunities for our students to be connected to their home school as well as gain work-based experience and credentials prior to graduation.
Pickerington Alternative students who need transportation, will report to their assigned high school bus stop. Pickerington High School Central students will have a shuttle bus waiting at the high school to transport them to the Pickerington Alternative School. This will be bus#4.
Senior students who are attending the Workforce Center will be shuttled from the Pickerington Alternative School to the WorkForce Center and will also have transportation home. Students who have their own transportation will be dropped off at the Pickerington Alternative School.
