Peace Be Upon You

Translated by Peter Cole

Poem

Peace be upon you—

ministering angels,

angels of heaven—

from the King who is king of all kings,

the Holy One, blessed be He;

in peace be your coming—

angels of peace,

angels of heaven—

from the King who is king of all kings,

the Holy One, blessed be He.

Bless me with peace—

angels of peace,

angels of heaven—

from the King who is king of all kings,

the Holy One, blessed be He,

in peace be your leaving—

angels of peace,

angels of heaven,

from the King who is king of all kings,

the Holy One, blessed be He.

Main Idea

I think the main idea of this particular poem is about the anonymous poet asking for peace from God. They may have been going through a hard time in life or maybe they just want to live a life filled with peace. The poet incorporates praising God through worship and praying for the peace he is seeking.

Why I Chose This Poem:

I chose this poem because it is very relatable. Like a song, we connect with poems that we have experience with. We all go through life experiences where we need "peace [to] be upon [us]." The tone in this poem is very peaceful and gives hope to those who are in a rough spot in their lives and connects with the reader which is a great characteristic of a poem.

Perfect Peace by Laura Story

Stay close by My side

Keep your eyes on Me

Though this life is hard

I will give you perfect peace

In this time of trial

Pain that no one sees

Trust me when I say

That I will give you perfect peace

And you'll never walk alone

And you'll never be in need

Though I may not calm the storms around you

You can hide in Me

Burdens that you bear

Offer no relief

Let Me bear your load

'Cause I will give you perfect peace

Stay close by My side

And you'll never walk alone

Keep your eyes on Me

And you'll never be in need

Though this life is hard

Know that I will always give you perfect peace

I will give you perfect peace

Peace Be Upon You + Perfect Peace

I think the song, "Perfect Peace", corresponds well with the poem I chose, "Peace Be Upon You", because they share the same tone and themes of love, peace, and worship. The tone set in the two pieces of writings is hope and innocence. They both tell a story of something that was once fearful and hopeless and turn it into something that foreshadows peace and a new-found hope.

My Poem:

Many seek knowledge;

Many strive for love.

But the one thing we need to strive for,

Is Peace.

Peace, delivered by the Holy Spirit,

Makes life fulfilling.

Before Peace floods your soul,

Your life may seem like a trial.

Before searching for other things,

Search for the Peace that will give you strength.

Strength for another day.
