PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
The C.P.T.O. has begun some conversations about what we can do to improve our playgrounds. Chris Lagerquist has volunteered to head up the group looking into this project but your input is needed. One option that was talked about was looking into "natural playgrounds." There will be discussion about how to address the flooding concerns on the smaller playground as well as ways to best utilize the large space in the back of the school. At the April C.P.T.O. meeting ideas will be discussed so I am asking anyone that might be interested to come to the meeting on April 3rd at 6:15 in the Library. Everyone's thoughts and ideas are helpful and useful so please consider coming and learning about our playground options.
The weather this time of the year is always changing. Please be sure your child is coming to school prepared to play outside. Boots are necessary to keep kids dry and our school floors safe and clean. Warm coats are necessary. We think it is warmer than it is due to the many months of extreme cold. I suggest sending winter outdoor gear every day just in case. It can't hurt for the kids to have it and not use it. Better safe than sorry my grandma always used to say.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held tonight. If you still need to speak to your child's teacher regarding school please contact them to set up a time to talk. Our partnership is the key to a successful school learning environment.
Have a great start to March!
Mrs. Michalski
WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ABRAMS?
Notes from the Office
Open Enrollment: This year's Open Enrollment application period will take place between February 1st and April 28th. The Wisconsin Open Enrollment program allows children to attend public school in a school district other than the one in which they live. Early and late applications will not be accepted. Parents may apply online at http://oe.dpi.wi.gov. If you do not have access to a computer, call or stop in at the district office. If your child is currently attending under Open Enrollment, it is not necessary to complete an application form; your child will remain an active student through 12th grade.
Skyward/Family Access-Login and Password: Skyward is the program our district uses to keep track of student information. Every family has a login and password which will allow them to gain access to their students' general information, attendance, grades, food service information and much more. You may access this website through the district's homepage at www.ocontofalls.k12.wi.us. Click on Family/Student Access, enter your login id and password. If you do not have a login and password please call the school office at 920-826-5819, ext. 0.

Is Your Child Too Sick for School Today? Part 1 of 2
It is not always easy to decide if your child is sick enough to stay home or well enough to be in school. Children who come to school are expected, with few exceptions, to participate fully in school activities. Here are some guidelines to follow:
Fever
A fever of 100 Degrees Fahrenheit or higher signals an illness, so your child should stay home from school. Your Child can return to school once he/she has not had a fever for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medicines).
Vomiting/Diarrhea
These are symptoms that require a student to remain at home until a normal diet is tolerated the night before and the morning of school.
A child with diarrhea and vomiting needs to be kept home.
Contact your child’s healthcare provider if prompt improvement does not occur.
Cough
A Child with a mild cough who is otherwise feeling well is OK to go to school. A child with a severe cold with a deep hacking cough should stay home from school even if there is no fever. A serious cough can be a symptom of a contagious condition like whooping cough, viral bronchitis or croup. It can also be a warning sign of asthma or allergies. Contact your child’s healthcare provider if your child has a severe cough.
Sore Throat
Sore throats can be a symptom of a common cold or strep. If your child has a sore throat, body aches, fever, or feeling “run down” he or she needs to stay home and the health care provider should be contacted. If diagnosed with strep throat, keep your child home for at least 24 hours after antibiotics have been started.
Cold
Mild colds or respiratory symptoms are not a reason to keep your child home from school, as long as their noses run clear and the cough is mild.

Raising a Thinking Child coming to Abrams and Suring Schools
Words adults use with children set the stage for a child to think and independently solve problems. Children need practice thinking of alternatives and developing their problem solving skills. Adults can develop and practice these skills at the "Raising a Thinking Child Workshop".
If you have a 4-7 year old and have experienced any of the following: Temper tantrums, difficulty making or keeping friends, impatience or interrupting, not listening, (all common, everyday problems with children)…“The Raising a Thinking Child” program may be just right for you!
This workshop series will help you guide your children to solve problems through communicating with your child. Shy children become more assertive, and impulsive children learn the ability to cope with frustration with this approach.
Mondays at Suring Elementary School, March 13 thru May 1, (no class 4/17) 5-6:30 pm,
free family dinner, workbook, and childcare for participants each week provided by Suring School, or
Thursdays at Abrams Elementary School, March 16 through May 4, (6-7:30 pm).
$15.00 workbook fee (workbook value is $30.00). Financial Assistance is available and free childcare will be provided for children of participants.
