News from Manchester Memorial Elementary School!
August 31, 2017
Principal's Note...
Welcome back to school! This has been an opening of school marked by high energy and excitement on the part of our staff and our returning/new students! Every summer, the staff and I get together for planning and training days. To wrap up the two days, I end things with a "theme for the year." This year's theme is something that I want to share with you in hopes that it will spread into the greater community and beyond.
You will notice signs and posters around the school that say "Give a Little Love...get a little love." This phrase comes from a video that I showed the staff that shows the power and importance of being good to one another through random acts of kindness. We discussed our belief that while academic growth is important to an elementary school, teaching kids to develop into good citizens and neighbors who treat each other well is paramount. I encourage you to watch the video with your children...share it with your friends and co-workers...revisit the concept with your children often. It really is very powerful.
Each teacher will show this video to their class in the first few days of school to start the conversation and set the tone for the year. Can you imagine the positive impact this will have on our school and community?!?!? Very exciting!

Best,
John

Art Exhibit
Manchester in Bloom Art Exhibit
This past spring, 4th grade students enjoyed a visit from the Manchester Historical Museums director Beth Welin. Beth gave a presentation about the history of Manchester summer “cottages” and the landscape designers who worked on the properties. The students continued this unit by creating large paper-mache flowers and insects. Their work is on display at the Manchester Historical Museum for the public to view. Thursday, September 28 from 5-7 will be the artists reception celebrating the work the students did. Students entering 5th grade, their families, and friends are all welcomed to this event.
