News from SHES Principal!
Happy November SHES Families,
November always reminds us to show thanks for the many people in our lives! In addition to my family and friends, I am extremely grateful for our dedicated staff and students who give their best each day in supporting, planning, teaching and learning. I would like to share special thanks for the members of our school family, parents, faculty and community that can give the gift of time, to plan, organize and successfully participate in special events, including our recent SHES Fall Fest! It was heartwarming to see everyone on campus enjoying this traditional school event once again. Special thanks to the team organizing Fall Fest this year, and to all of our parents and staff members who volunteered to make it possible. We cannot do these activities without you! A great time was had by all and you are so greatly appreciated!!
We have many exciting things happening over the next week. On Friday, November 11th, our 5th Grade Chorus will be singing at Daydreamers Café first thing in the morning, and at the City of Safety Harbor Veteran’s Day Celebration at 11:00am at the Safety Harbor Marina (weather permitting). Due to school closure, our Veteran’s Day Concert and Art Show is rescheduled for Tuesday, November 15th in our auditorium. Thank you to Ms. Ross, Mrs. Countryman, Mr. Jarvis and Mrs. Carstensen for your involvement so our students can participate in showcasing their creative work and honor our active and veteran military service men and women!
On Wednesday, November 16th we will host The Great American Teach In. This annual event spotlights the many career options that are available to our students. Thanks in advance to our many presenters. If you have any questions, please contact our front office.
Parents, when we return from Fall Break we will begin our Progress Monitoring Cycle 2 Assessments for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Please continue the hard work of reading and practicing math skills so that your student can experience success and demonstrate growth on these assessments. Encourage scholars to read something everyday for at least 30 minutes, and to complete all assignments and homework which provide practice for skills. School attendance is crucial and communication with your classroom teacher is especially important if you child needs support. You are your child’s first teacher! Following the assessment updated results will be shared with parents. Let's build our scholar's confidence and encourage them to do their best! Show what you know Sea Turtles!
On behalf of our faculty, we wish you a healthy, happy and restful upcoming fall break! Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Fondly, Ms. Palmer, Principal

K-Kids News November
K-KIDS is off a great start and already have two contribution projects in the works. As you may have seen, K-KIDS paired with Student Council and hosted a donation station at Fall Fest to raise monetary donations for Hurricane Ian victims South Florida. These contributions are much appreciated and will be sent to Florida counties effected by the damages and displacement.
Students also planned to collect items for the crowded Humane Societies in our local vicinity at the November meeting. Members will collect these items and offer them to the Clearwater Humane Society. Our November meeting will be held November 11th at 7:45 am in the Media Center.

Student of the Month -October
Kiwanis' Student of the month- TAYLOR BELEJCHAK
Taylor Belejchak is my choice for Kiwanis Student of the Month
(by Kristen Conley- gifted program teacher)
Taylor is the perfect example of a student who is motivated, determined, patient, and bright. When it comes to academics, Taylor excels in all areas and always makes herself available to support her peers in anything they need help with. Taylor doesn’t just settle for completing her assignments and projects, but she goes above and beyond to produce the highest-quality work. Her motivation to be successful challenges others around her to pursue excellence as well. Taylor is not only an incredible student academically, but also personally and socially. Taylor is able to lead and guide others with a gentle and kind demeanor. Taylor is a Safety Patrol who takes pride in caring for and assisting the kindergarteners in the car circle. Taylor takes pleasure in knowing that she gave her best effort and did what she could to show love to everyone she comes in contact with.
One of the most special things about Taylor is her genuine heart. Taylor values genuine connection with others. I feel that Taylor is the perfect student for this award as she deserves to be celebrated for the person she is. I have been so lucky to be her Gifted Program teacher for all these years and can’t wait to see Taylor flourish in middle school, as a competitive runner, and beyond!
Volunteer Corner
The Great American Teach In is on Wed. Nov. 16th.
Thank you to everybody that has already signed up!
If you are interested in joining us, please contact Lisa Zollars in the front office ASAP.
No additions will be made to the schedule after Nov. 11th.
Volunteers don’t forget to log all of your hours! Every minute counts! Please help SHES shine! 😊
Logging and tracking volunteer hours allows for a truer picture of what programs actually cost. Business partners/donors want to know the real value of our programs, and underestimating the impact of volunteers undervalues the program. Thorough volunteer tracking systems also allow us to gain a better understanding of how much volunteers COST and CONTRIBUTE to the event. This allows us to define clear current needs and requirements. Lastly, the community, potential families choosing our school and other volunteers take note of the strength of the volunteer program (number of hours) as an indicator of credibility and belief in the school.
LUNCH PAL MENTORS NEEDED!
Change the life of student! Meet with a student once a week during their lunch!
That is all it takes! Please contact the front office for details!
We are high need of MALE mentors!
SHES PTA News
It was so wonderful to host our Fall Festival again! Thank you to all the grownups who helped by setting up, selling tickets, creating pumpkins, and sending in prizes and cakes. We want to especially thank Maggie Scott and Amy Triplett for planning this fabulous event. Time honored traditions, like Fall Fest, happen because of the efforts of dedicated parents – please consider getting involved in PTA. Fall Fest is a huge undertaking but so worth it to see our entire sea turtle community having fun together. If you took any fun photos at the festival, please send them in to shesyearbookpictures@gmail.com so they can be included in the yearbook.
Recall that at the first PTA General Meeting, membership approved an increase in classroom grants from $100 to $125. Classroom teachers have been spending those funds and PTA is so happy to be able to contribute to the success of your student by providing funding for classroom needs. Ask your child’s teacher what they bought with their PTA grant funds.
Before school on November 3rd, PTA will host “Party with Your Parents”. We are combining our “Mornings with Moms” and “Breakfast Buddies” programs in November to host one BIG party. A neon glow theme is planned, so everyone wear your school spirit shirts and come prepared to groove with your grownup! PTA will provide a light breakfast and a fun game for all who attend.
Lastly, in the spirit of thankfulness, PTA will host our annual Fall Staff Appreciation Luncheon on November 17th. We always request families send in a dish, so break out the recipe books! If you’d like to help with planning the luncheon or could help serve on the 17th – send us an email at shespta1@gmail.com. Heather Danhour, Staff Appreciation Chair, has sent information home! Check out Peach Jar for the flyer. We want to show our SHES staff and teachers how much we care. Together, we can all work to make Safety Harbor Elementary School a great place to be.
