What's New in Room 182

Mrs. Peters' 3rd Grade * October 14, 2015

Happy Fall!

I hope you all enjoy time to rest and rejuvenate this weekend with family and friends. Your students are continuing to work hard, and I'm really looking forward to all of the new activities and learning coming up!

One request... please make sure your 3rd grader has a set of headphones to use at school daily. We have been increasing the number of ways we use iPads, and headphones are essential to your student's participation and learning.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs. Peters

Come read to us, but Shhh... it's a SECRET!

Coming soon, I am kicking off our "Mystery Readers" volunteer opportunity. Each Friday, we hope to host one of our parents, family members, or former teachers as a guest reader, but shh... we can't know it's you!!

More information and a sign-up page can be found here.

Please e-mail me with any questions or if alternate arrangements need to be made.

We hope to see you, or someone special to your third grader, on one of our mystery days!

Focus on the Curriculum

ELA

  • Weekly Prefix: Bi- (two)

We will go over the new words in class on Monday.
Complete and glue Matching Activity in Learning Log on Monday night.

Students should log on to Spelling City at home (via web or free app) during the week and complete their assigned activities. Log-in information will be in their Planner.

The Read-Around Activity will be OPTIONAL from now on, since students have Spelling City access.

  • Describing Characters
(Here's a link to practice identifying characters' feelings. This one lets you make inferences (draw conclusions) about how and why a character behaves a certain way!

Math

  • Chapter 2: Multidigit Addition and Subtraction

This week, we will continue mastering addition and subtraction with regrouping (two-digit, three-digit, and four-digit). (Here's a link to a lesson that explains regrouping, as well as a few practice problems. Please encourage your student to practice at home this week with you or using an online program or app!)

Students will have a Chapter 2 test the following week.

Homework will be "Weekly Review #3", sent home Monday and due Friday to reinforce skills from the first six weeks.
