The Center of Disease Control works 24/7 to protect America from health, safety and security threats. If people get sick at home or somewhere else like in a foreign country they will help you. The CDC increases the health security of our nation. CDC saves lives and protects people from health threats.
The Mission Statement
The CDC's mission statement is detecting and responding to new and emerging health threats, tackling the biggest health problems causing death and disability for Americans, putting science and advanced technology into action to prevent disease, promoting healthy and safe behaviors, communities and environment. They are also developing leaders and training the public health workforce, including disease detectives, and taking the health pulse of our nation.
The History of CDC
On July 1, 1946 the Communicable Disease Center (CDC) opened its doors in Atlanta. Its primary mission to prevent malaria from spreading across the nation. With a budget of only $10 million and fewer than 400 employees. CDC′s first budget was under $10 million. CDC celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2006. Today the CDC is the nation′s premier health promotion, prevention. It remains at the forefront of public health efforts to prevent and control infectious and chronic diseases, injuries, disabilities, and environmental health threats. CDC is now focusing on becoming a more efficient and impactful agency by focusing on five areas: supporting state and local health departments, improving global health, implementing measures to decrease leading causes of death, strengthening surveillance and epidemiology, and reforming health policies.

The director of the CDC is Thomas R. Frieden. Dr. Frieden has worked to control health threats from infectious diseases, responding to emergencies, and battleing the leading causes of suffering and deaths in our nation and around the world. Thomas as the director of our nation’s health protection agency, is leading CDC to address challenging health priorities.
