I AM. YOU ARE. WE ARE. BULLDOGS!
News from Mrs. Mankin

Mrs. Leiner with 1st Grade Students - Mrs. Hower
New Britton has been a busy place for our learners, families, and staff! We hosted our third Wednesday of Family (Parent-Teacher) Conferences this past week, with our final date occurring this Wednesday, October 11. We would like to thank our teachers, students, and families for preparing for and participating in these conferences. This opportunity to collaborate as a partnership allows families to understand learning progress, hear specific goals for future learning, and ask questions.
Our Related Arts team (art, music, PE, Spanish/Global Studies, and STEAM) created a collaborative map day again this year to enrich student learning. The lessons highlighted artists, sports, songs, dances, environments, landmarks, scientists and animals from several Central American countries. We would like to thank our Related Arts team for creating this learning experience for our children! Families are invited to attend our International Expo this Thursday from 5:30-7:00 at New Britton. This expo is built from learning in our Travel Club facilitated by Ms. Coffman.
Two Fishers Public Health Educators have been visiting classrooms to teach students about the importance of health and safety. Kacy Brobst, a previous HSE science teacher and new Fishers Health Department educator, taught kindergarten students a lesson about the importance of hand washing. Ashley Heckley, our Fishers Fire Department educator, has been at NBE teaching lessons to students in K-4 regarding the following topics: general safety, bike safety, water safety, and fire safety. We are fortunate that the INDOT (IN Department of Transportation) donated bike helmets for all HSE 1st and 2nd grade students. These are being distributed at remaining family conferences and through a staggered approach via drawstring backpacks.
Mrs. Leiner, our school counselor, has been teaching students about bullying. She shares the difference between a conflict and bullying (through examples and a video) and ways to prevent and report it. As a school community, we teach and model the importance of kindness and that bullying is unacceptable.
We look forward to another full week of learning before fall break begins. Our break starts on Monday, October 16 and ends on Friday, October 20. The first day after fall break is Monday, October 23.
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education!

The NBE Student Council has partnered up with Girl Scouts from New Britton to have 2 service-project collections.
The Student Council is promoting Socktober! During the month of October, we are collecting NEW SOCKS for people in need in our Hamilton County community. All socks will be donated to the Good Samaritan Network here in Hamilton County.
The Girl Scouts are doing a service project called CHANGING FOOTPRINTS. They are collecting used shoes for people in need. If the shoes are more worn, with holes in them, they will be used to make playground surface/equipment.
Please turn in any donations this coming week and the week we return from fall break. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
