A Note from Mrs. Williams
Hello Schluter Families!
This week there were many celebrations! Monday was National School Librarian Appreciation Day, and we celebrated Mrs. Pospisil for all that she does to support and instill the love of reading and books in our kids. We also honored our paraprofessionals for Paraprofessional Appreciation Day on Wednesday. Our teachers and staff could not do what they do everyday without our paraprofessionals supporting them. Last, but certainly not least, we honored and celebrated our amazing assistant principal, Mr. McAdams, for National Assistant Principal Week. We loved making them feel special this week!
We had another exciting celebration this week. As you know, Britney Nichols, one of our 3rd grade teachers, was named our Schluter Exemplar Educator of the Year a few months ago. Last night at our district celebration, she was named as the NISD Elementary Teacher of the Year!! She will go on to compete at the regional level against other district teachers of the year. We are so proud that she is being recognized for the wonderful work she does and the far-reaching impact she has made on our students here at Schluter.
One final shout-out has to go to our art teacher, Ms. Casiano for coordinating our magical Art Show this past week. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the website linked below to still purchase a frame for your child's piece. Today is the final day!
On Thursday of next week, join several Schluter staff members as we spend the evening on the roof of the school! You are welcome to join us at the front of the school at 7:00pm to watch us do a fun science experiment, and then join us on Facebook live that night at 8:00pm to listen to a bedtime story read by me while I'm on the roof! Don't forget that the next day, Friday, there is no school, due to a student and teacher holiday.
Also, included below are additional May events as we start to wrap up the school year. It feels weird to even say that! We will provide more information and details as each event gets closer. Enjoy the beautiful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Williams

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN NISD
Enrollment for 2022-2023 begins April 11
Stay tuned for additional details! Families are encouraged to enroll their children as soon as possible, as this helps Northwest ISD schools plan for staffing and classes. The sooner families enroll their children, the fewer class-balancing changes – splitting classes or moving students from one class to another – are likely to take place once the school year starts. As a fast-growth school district, having this information early provides the best possible start to the school year!
Dr. David Hicks named lone finalist for Northwest ISD superintendent
Dr. Hicks comes from Sherman ISD, which he has led as superintendent for the past six years. Prior to that, he oversaw all secondary schools at Denton ISD, giving him a strong familiarity with fast-growth school districts. As a superintendent, he has focused on fostering top-tier academic and extracurricular programs, ensuring the needs of every child are met, and creating a long-term vision for district growth.
District FFA programs to host spring plant sales
All schools will host their plant sales from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, and Friday, April 8. Byron Nelson is located at 2775 Bobcat Blvd. in Trophy Club, Eaton is located at 1350 Eagle Blvd., Haslet and Northwest is located at 2301 Texan Drive in Justin.

Reminders of COVID procedures
Reporting COVID Results: Reporting positive COVID results helps us monitor cases at each school and inform potential close contacts. Please report any positive COVID results using this form.
Don’t Attend if Sick or Awaiting Results: If a student or staff member is exhibiting symptoms or awaiting COVID test results, please do not come to school. This helps prevent potential COVID spread, and keeping our students and staff safe and healthy is our top priority.
Testing at School: If a student or staff member begins exhibiting symptoms at school, he or she can receive a COVID test in the school nurse’s office. Consent forms for these tests are available on our COVID website. To reiterate the prior point, however, do not come to school if already sick – please seek an external testing location.
In-District Testing: A testing location is available in the parking lot of Old Texan Stadium, across the street from Northwest ISD Stadium. This program, operated by a third-party vendor, is free for a general COVID test. Information about this location is available on our website.

Free Meal Program Extended for Elementary, Middle Schools
All Northwest ISD students in elementary and middle school will continue receive free breakfast and lunch meals during the 2021-2022 school year! While students in high school will not take part in the same program, they can continue to apply for free or reduced-price meals.
Though meals are free to all elementary and middle school students, we strongly encourage families to continue to apply for the free and reduced-price meal program, as there are further benefits that can help reduce financial hardship. An accurate count of students in need also helps provide the appropriate programs at schools. Anyone who previously applied for the free or reduced-price meal program or believes they may now qualify based on their financial circumstances should still apply. This will also ensure these students receive free or reduced-cost meals for at least the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 school year.
