Dear Family/Whānau
Talofa lava whānau/fanau
Last week was Samoan language week. Teachers used opportunities to share language and some aspects of the Samoan culture with their learners.
On Thursday Whaea Hilary organised a school-wide Tona’i (Samoan lunch). This was enthusiastically enjoyed by learners and staff. A special fa'afetai to Hilary for sharing her talents with us by sharing her Samoan culture through food and music.
As part of our Special Character this week, we learnt about Pentecost, which occurs fifty days after Easter. This is called the birthday of the Church. We are grateful to the PTFA for coordinating the Pentecost cakes we all enjoyed. A lovely way to celebrate the Church’s birthday.
We were so lucky last Tuesday to have a fabulous afternoon for our annual cross country. Our learners shared their SAINTS values by sharing their talents at running and striving so hard around that big park. Thank you Tracey Gunn for your scrupulous organisation which made this event seamless and fun for all.
On Monday on behalf of Mayor Grant Smith, the City Council planted a Matai tree to commemorate the city’s 150th sesquicentennial year (2021). Councilor Pat Hancock represented the PNCC and LS5, 8 and 10 took part with one of our eldest and youngest learners assisting in the planting. We blessed the tree with a song of prayer.
Health and Safety - Unfortunately we are having a second wave of disruptions through Covid and flu infections among staff and learners. In order to protect us all, we are asking that all adults wear masks on site and also as recommended, year 4-6 learners.
I have had some learners telling me they don’t have to wear masks now. Please support us with this initiative to keep us all safe, and learning to continue with well staff.
If I am unable to have a teacher in a class, my first option is to find a relieving teacher, if this is not possible, the class will be split between other classes. Another option is to have hybrid learning. This is computer based learning organised by the teacher and supervised by a staff member who may not be a registered teacher.
As a last resort some classes would be asked to remain home as has happened in Palmerston North recently. Online learning would be supplied.
We are looking forward to having you at our first assembly this Friday at 2pm.
E te Atua e manaaki ki a koutou katoa
May God Bless you all
