ALL HANDS ON DECK

Collective Commitment Corner
Blending my time this week in classrooms with our students and out, off-campus, with professional learning opportunities is causing me to connect on so many levels! At the KC RPDC Math Networking, for example, our group dug in with the four key recommendations for high school math. At our ELA and Math Curriculum Council, focus was placed on the importance of student voice as opposed to teacher-centered lessons. A definite celebration is that all of this work is spot on with what we know is best for student learning, and so much of this goodness is happening right here at our PCHS!
According to the Executive Summary from NCTM in Catalyzing Change in High School Mathematics: Initiating Critical Conversations, one of the four key findings is that classroom instruction should be consistent with research-informed and equitable teaching practices. Bandura’s social learning theory definitely supports the practice put into place in this math classroom recently! Think of the research-informed practices and differentiation taking place here as students work with their learning targets in multiple modalities!
It was exciting to see these station days come together for our students and inspiring because our math team definitely went above and beyond by contributing resources. Way to learn and grow together. Love it!
As always, should you wish to have a planning conversation or just hope to brainstorm, just say the word!
Spring Break Shutdown Checklist
Your classroom will be essentially vacant over spring break. Please take a
moment before you leave to walk through your classroom and turn off / unplug
the following items in your classroom. Turning these items off will capture a
surprisingly large amount of energy savings. Thank you for your participation and
have a wonderful break!
Classrooms:
Desktop Computers / PCs / Monitors – Off
Classroom Lights - Off
All Smart Boards / DVD players / Projectors / TVs - Off
All Lamps / Desk Fans / Radios / Etc. – Off
Keurig / Coffee pots – Unplugged
Scentsy Heated Candles - Unplugged
All hot plates - Off
Space heaters – Unplugged
Windows Closed and locked
Mini Refrigerator – Off, if possible routines
Continuous Learning Contingency Plan
Attached you will find our documents outlining roles for students, teachers, parents, and staff during a potential school closure. These documents are for our internal use only at this time and will be communicated to families in the event of a closure. Please review these expectations and address all questions to your building administrator. Additionally, elementary educators will also find grade-level menus for students as our K-5 learners do not have access to individual devices.
It is not our expectation that you are working to develop lessons over spring break. However, it is our expectation that you are thinking about this plan and are prepared for deployment if necessary. In the instance of school closure, time will be allotted for planning and preparation just as during the regular school day. Additional support from the Academic Services Team will be available to you for access, collaboration, and problem solving. Pupil Services staff will receive specific procedures from Dr. Beutel.
Thank you for your work and patience as we navigate this together!
Resources and Reminders - From Val
In light of our ever-evolving COVID 19 situation and possibly future instructional circumstances/needs you all may have, I am attaching a link to a spreadsheet with Education Companies Possessing/Offering Free Subscriptions/Resources due to School Closings. I may add a few more items to it but this is a pretty extensive list already:
Education Companies Possessing/Offering Free Subscriptions/Resources Due to School Closings
I also want to remind you of your Departmental Symbaloos that have a variety of resources on them and our Libguides--especially the very top one: All PCHS Research Resources that houses our subscription databases.
To find Quicklinks to the Departmental Symbaloo and the Libguide resources, go to the PCHS Library tab and click on Staff Resources in the sidebar menu.
If I can help anyone should we need to take classes online after the break, please know that you should be able to reach me via email after Spring Break.
Hope everyone has a good Spring Break.
