Director's Message
Dear BIS Community,
As our staff prepare for the first day of school next week, it has been an exciting week on campus. From training to COVID safety review, we have been busy.
Our four new teachers have received training all week. The new teachers received training on Azerbaijani culture, QSI’s Mastery Learning, child protection curriculum, Microsoft Teams, and operational procedures on the BIS campus. Some of the training was provided virtually by QSI headquarters, our local staff, and Mrs. Holmquist and myself. After spending time with the new teachers this week and getting to know them, I can say QSI headquarters has hired more quality teachers for BIS. More details on our new staff will be shared in future newsletters. We are going to have a fabulous year with our new and current staff.
As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, the updated health and safety guidelines for COVID would be shared this week. After 2 ½ years of COVID, we are emerging into a “new normal”. The current COVID guidelines are adjusted for the “new normal”. As mentioned in the COVID document, the health and safety guidelines can change due to local authority guidelines and increasing COVID cases. The main point is our guidelines are built to be fluid based on the situation. Please review them with your family.
Next week on the 24th is our orientation day. We will have a variety of sessions to helps families and students get situated for the 2022-2023 school year. Below are some more specific details on the events:
Orientation for New Families: We will meet in the auditorium at 2 PM. I will personally review key components of QSI, explain the important staff members on BIS campus, and share general information on how our campus operates. While this session is designed for new families, all families are welcome to attend.
Pre-School & Elementary: Meet the Homeroom Teacher – This event is at 2:30. It is designed for all students and families to stop by the classroom and say hi to the teacher. The purpose of this event is to have a short Meet and Greet in order to decrease any anxiety the student has for the first day. Teachers will provide more detailed information via digital communication and the designated Open House that is scheduled in the upcoming weeks.
Middle School and Secondary: Advisory Orientation - This event is at 2:30. The current plan is to have students meet in the gym. This activity is designed for students only so they have the opportunity to make friends through the structured activity with the counselor. Parents are not expected to attend this event. In addition, the students will be introduced to their advisory teacher. It is important to know that this age group’s orientation will continue the first day of school.
I look forward to seeing everyone next week.
Sincerely,
Dr. Garner
