What’s Happened So Far & Where Have We Been:
Trip to Lithia Toyota
During this event, students were able to experience and gain exposure to many areas of the auto industry including sales and management, parts and service, general maintenance (lube technicians), and auto technicians.
The tour was led by the Lithia Toyota Service Manager, Automotive Technician Recruiter, and Associate General Recruiter. Students toured the shop area and had interactions with a couple of the technicians as they diagnosed and worked to repair automobiles.
Students then learned about specific requirements, certifications, training, and opportunities that Lithia provides for its employees. Also, the various positions available via Lithia and the vast number of locations. The range of pay, benefits, and stock options for employees were also covered and explained.
The next section of the tour provided a Q and A with active engagement, educational interaction, and questions from the students. During the Q and A two automotive technicians were able to speak about their experience related to general working conditions and daily routines. They also shared their personal experiences about their educational paths, one tech went through RCC, and the other through Universal Technical Institute - UTI.
Lithia Employees ended the tour with information about their continuing education program and the certificates that are provided and required by the company. This was an invaluable time during the tour as students wear able to interact with a wide range of individuals with experiences in all phases of the training and work application.
Thank you Lithia for the experience!
Trip to Pavilion Construction Site, Located at Asante & Crater Lake Electrician Training Center
During this event, students had the opportunity to experience and gather knowledge of the Electrician trade as well as safety standards. Students also had the opportunity to practice some skills on an active construction site during the tour.
The tour was led by representatives from Pacific Electrical Contractors, Rogue Electric Pre-Apprentice Coordinator/Instructor, and Crater Lake Electrical. During the tour of the Pavilion Construction Site, students were able to hear from our tour guides and a couple of the Electricians who were on site. This part of the tour focused on observing the frontline employees at work in their daily environment and experiences. Students were able to witness the various advancements in technologies, equipment, tools, and practices now being used in industries today for a more productive and healthier work environment.
After touring the construction site, students had the fortunate opportunity to participate in the education and training side of the Electrician trade at Crater Lake Electrical - Training Center for Electricians in the Rogue Valley. In particular, the Pre-Apprentice program is a pathway to the Electrician Apprenticeship. While this program in no way guarantees anyone a spot as an Apprentice within the industry, it is undoubtedly a valuable and worthwhile program that prepares individuals and helps with resumes.
Our students were not only able to hear about the opportunities within this program, but they were also able to take part in some “hands-on” learning, activities, and projects within the training center's shop. Our students seemed to enjoy this opportunity and experience while also walking away from this experience well-informed about the program and the Electrician industry as a whole.
