What's New in the Art Room
I am so excited about this new year! We are going Choice-Based (or TAB) in the art room. What does that mean? It means that your student is able to decided more about their artwork than ever before. They will be able to work in different centers in the art room that are dedicated to a certain art medium. Students will be able to explore and create ideas and materials that interest them. Interests of the students will lead our curriculum while still learning art fundamentals.
I have decided to use this approach this year because I want an authentic art experience for your student. I want them to be creating things that are meaningful for them. We will be focusing on artistic behavior. This means will we be working on developing craft, envisioning, observing, expressing, engaging and persisting, stretching and exploring, reflecting, and art worlds with our art.
This is a whole new idea that we have ever had in the art room so it will take some time to settle in and get used to our new processes. What you can expect to see differently is the work we take home and how we share our work. We will be keeping portfolios this year for projects that stay in the class until the end of the year. We will be keeping an online portfolio with Seesaw (an online tool). We will also be continuing the traditions of art shows and competitions (5th grade) through out the year.
Thank you for visiting the art room and I'm looking forward to a great year! Please feel free to contact me!
