Breakfast Change for 2022

After Winter Break, Hannum breakfast will once again be served in the morning, before the bell. We will NOT be sending them home at the end of the day. Children can come to school starting at 8:10 to eat breakfast. Breakfast ends at 8:25. Students should come to the front doors of the school if they want to eat breakfast. This meal will continue to be free for everyone that comes to breakfast.

MAP, DRA2 and ACCESS Testing

If it's January it's also Winter Assessment Time!! All of our students will be participating in the MAP assessment. This is the computerized assessment in Math and Reading that adapts as the students answer questions. If they get a few questions correct, then the next few questions get harder. If they get a few incorrect, then the questions get a bit easier. When the test is completed we have a better idea of where they are in their learning.

The DRA2 assessment is a reading test taken by all K-2 students and only some grades 3-5 students that we need more information about. This assessment is given one on one and will be starting around the end of January.

Finally, the ACCESS test is given to our ESL students to measure their English language proficiency. This assessment measures Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening in English. This is also a computerized assessment and is completed with Mrs Issa. This assessment takes a full month to complete.

These assessments in the middle of the year help us to see the growth our students have made since the beginning of the year and also helps us to see what areas they are still struggling.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Please do not drop students off on the opposite curb from where school is and walking them across, especially on the 2nd/3rd grade doors. and the 4/5 grade doors. This holds up the line, but is also dangerous. I see it happen constantly and while we'd like to think that drivers are being careful when they drive around our school, it isn't always the case. We don't want your child to be in a tragic accident.

If you are picking students up at the K/1 doors, please DO NOT park and block the driveway and please DO NOT park in the driveway leading to the parking lot of St Germaine. That is against fire code. You may park in one of the parking spots in the lot. I come out those doors and get everything moving smoothly and then move on to another area and then we have problems again at the K/1 doors. Please follow the rules whether I am there or not.

Please do not bring pets to pick up or drop off your child. We have children with allergies, but we have also had instances where the dogs have gotten loose and really caused problems. I love my dog too, but please leave them at home.

Please note the drop off locations and where you are allowed to park and get out of your car.

CoVid News

Our numbers are up so much since the beginning of the year. This leads to anxiety for everyone, Depending on the number of cases in a classroom, we may have to quarantine an entire classroom, so please if your child is not vaccinated, please make sure you are careful with who you are interacting with. These phone calls have been very difficult to make and very difficult for you to hear. I do not take this lightly. Please be careful with who your children are interacting with, especially during Winter Break. I am expecting a continued rise when we return. When we do close contacts we are only looking within school. We cannot know who your children are with outside of school, so if your child tests positive, you should let their friends know as well. More information will be given to you regarding your particular circumstances. Students may also be quarantined due to showing symptoms.

If your child has been FULLY VACCINATED (meaning its been at least 2 weeks after the second dose of the vaccine) please let us know and your child will not have to quarantine. If you are willing to let us know ahead of time, please call Mrs Malloy or upload your child's vaccination record on to Skyward. You can call the office if you need help with this.

If your child is suspected of having CoVid or has symptoms that are associated with CoVid we can only accept a real time PCR test. Not an Antigen or Rapid test due to false positive and negative results.

When students are quarantined, they will be given work for someone to pick up in the foyer of school. Students will get in invitation to a Homework Help Google Classroom to log on between 3:30 and 4:30 to get assistance from a Hannum staff member for work that they are struggling with. They just need to log on during that time and someone will be available to help them while they are quarantining.

SHIELD Illinois

FYI.... We have a new testing day. Hannum will now test on Tuesdays.

The SHIELD Illinois program is a quick, simple, and non-invasive COVID-19 screening test. Students that have opted-in to the program will provide a small amount of saliva that is tested at a professional lab. Results of the test are then provided to families and our school district within the days following. The program offers students the opportunity to reduce or waive quarantine requirements in the event of close contact with a positive case or if the student demonstrates symptoms. You can opt-in to the program at any time by accessing Online Forms in Skyward Family Access. More information about the SHIELD Illinois program can be found at: d123.org/shield-illinois-testing-program

It now looks like depending on when you signed your child up, they may not be able to test until the following week.
